FMLA during training/probationary period. HR pros please!
I will be starting a job soon with Nassau County. I am currently 10 weeks pregnant, and will have a 1 year training which is also a probationary period. Does anyone know how FMLA works in this sort of situation? I will be in a class with the training. Will they have me leave my class and pick up where I left off? I'm super nervous, because I have not disclosed my pregnancy yet. I don't want to leave my current job and take this huge risk with the change of getting fired due to my leave of absence.

FMLA during training/probationary period. HR pros please!
FMLA can only be used after you have been with the company for 1 year, have worked 1,250 hours in that year. If this is a new job you would not be eligible for FMLA.
From the Department of Labor website: Employees are eligible for leave if they have worked for their employer at least 12 months, at least 1,250 hours over the past 12 months, and work at a location where the company employs 50 or more employees within 75 miles. Whether an employee has worked the minimum 1,250 hours of service is determined according to FLSA principles for determining compensable hours or work.

Correct. You would not be eligible for it.

Look like it yes
Full-time employees, who work a regular schedule of 20 or more hours per week, are eligible for Paid Family Leave after 26 consecutive weeks of employment.

You will be eligible for the paid family leave act for 8 weeks at 50% of your pay after completing 26 consecutive weeks.

You would need to find out if the county has that benefit. They could have it, but I believe it's not mandatory for public employers.
Can you contact the county HR? Or the union? Or maybe the county has a website you can check?

Oh yes, didn't realize you said you were working for the county. Private companies must offer it. Public jobs don't have to, it's up to them. So you have to check with the county.

you may not be get it if you are working for the county. Its only private companies that have to offer it. Also, I would check about you leaving in the middle of the class - I work for a branch of the govt and we wouldn't be able to take extended leave in the middle of a class. Usually its giving to a group of people so they cant start up again when you return.
