Comsewogue School District
Education is #1 in my life and my daughter is very intelligent and needs a good school district that allows her to flourish and continues to push her in the right direction. We were thinking of moving into the Comsewogue School District but it's making me nervous because I don't know much about it and numbers wise on like greatschools (which i know isn't always accurate but it is a slice of the pie...) says it's middle of the road and not top notch like I would like. Any first hand knowledge of the district I know of is for kids with special needs. Does anyone have any true insight into the district, especially for the gifted/advanced? Do they have honors throughout middle and high school? Is this a good district, a bad district, middle of the road? Please any info!

Comsewogue School District
I live in Comsewogue, my kids aren’t school age yet but I have consulted in the district as a BCBA from time to time, again, as a BCBA I only had experience in their special education program. However with that said, the superintendent of the district is awesome. Numbers wise last year had a 95% proficient in reading 96% in math 24% in AP classes, and overall 94% graduation rate. Is it a garden city or Roslyn or Jericho, no, not event close. We are a VERY small district but also a very tight knit community and feel that every teacher I have encounter in the district is VERY dedicated to their students. I had one teacher working until 9pm like every Friday just to assemble weekly portfolios for a student. I felt that everyone I met was compassionate and caring. To be honest, I feel that your child will succeed as far as you push them. I went to an exclusive private school for high school and I can’t tell you even how many kids were addicted to drugs, went to rehab, jail, and others went on to be doctors and lawyers. It’s all about the values you instill in your child, their drive to succeed and the involvement you have in their academic career. Top notch doesn’t always mean best IMO

Comsewogue School District
This is my district. Average education is what my daughter is getting. Nothing above and beyond to be honest. She does well, many teachers are great but we have had a few crabs. My son graduated last year and has special needs. They were awesome for him. This district is definitely not for gifted students. There are zero gifted programs in elementary. We dont even have science fair or spelling bees. My friend has a gifted daughter. In K they had her sitting in the corner on a computer to learn extra stuff. It was a joke.

Re: Comsewogue School District
I have no personal experience, but one of my best friends lives in that district. Her children are in elementary school and so far she is happy. No, it's not a "top" district, but then again I firmly believe that your kid's education is what you make of it. If you are extremely involved you will get more from the teachers and staff, and your child will thrive.
(If your child is *truly* gifted you may need to seek out additional help in determining where she may be best suited.)

Comsewogue School District
Look a little West and go to Three Village. Their programs and education is stellar for advanced children.

I have a few friends in that district and they have all good things to say. However, if you're looking for tier 1 schools in Suffolk look a town or two over in the Three Village district.

Comsewogue School District
I think if you're daughter is smart and motivated, it won't really matter what district she's in, she will excel regardless. I think Comsewogue is an excellent district and they have an amazing superintendent that has been very active in the war on testing. My nieces are in Three Village and their parents haven't been all that impressed with the schools there. Education really is what you make of it. I live in an average district and my daughter just graduated in the top 10 of her class of 500. It's all relative.
