DH is a very nervous flier and gets easily motion sick. We usually stick to virgin or jet blue b/c he it’s what he knows, he likes the distraction of the TVs, and they are comparably newer planes (though jet blues are getting older) and we’ve had no customer service issues. Now that we are a family of 4, these options are becoming expensive. We’re looking to fly to Disney soon, but need in general to add more airlines to our repertoire. What airlines do you frequent that you would recommend?

Re: Favorite airlines
As much as i hate Southwest's boarding procedures I have never had a bad flight with them and you cannot beat Islip airport. It's an absolute pleasure

When we don’t fly jetblue, it’s usually Delta. Never had any issues and Delta has some new planes now.

Re: Favorite airlines
I have no recommendations for airlines as I don’t live there (I do strictly Lufthansa or British Airways).
I am just like your husband. I am very picky and I do choose according to the plane. I do want to say that new is not always better. I try to stay away from AIrbus, but that’s hard these days. I prefer Boeing. Stay away from any DCs.

We like to stick with Jetblue whenever we can. My DH is an air traffic controller so he has a lot of opinions on airlines. He refuses to fly Southwest. We had to fly Delta to Colorado last summer because of flight times available and they didn’t have any tv’s. I was shocked especially since it was a longer flight.

Flying Southwest to Disney this trip. Last couple of times it was strictly JetBlue but now that we are flying as a family of 5 JetBlue is too expensive, found cheaper with Southwest out of Islip.

Re: Favorite airlines
We fly quite a bit, and usually on Delta (because we have miles), or Southwest. Delta sucks. I only fly them because of miles. We flew from NYC to LAX last month and my TV didn't work...which is a common theme with them on a lot of our flights. The a/c didn't work on our flight from Salt Lake to home. My son's TV froze, so had to be reset. The space in a regular main cabin seat is TIGHT. I'm short, 5'2 and there is zero leg room. Their "economy comfort" is the same as Southwest's regular ol' seats. The only good thing about Delta is that they are pretty responsive to complaints, so I always end up with gift cards from them.
We flew Frontier earlier in the year and brand new plane, had zero complaints, and only paid $39 to FL a couple of days out. They don't have TVs. Frontier and Southwest are super closet to me, so I wouldn't schlep to JFK for Jet Blue just because of a TV. I would bring my own device and watch.

Delta and American. American has been adding new planes to its fleet. I haven't flown Jet Blue in a while.
DH is a big man, so his comfort is key. For longer flights we usually book business/first.
eta : we fly out of JFK because we live in Queens. No effing way will I fly out of LGA.

Re: Favorite airlines
We go to Disney at least once a year and for the last 4 years have exclusively flown Southwest. Nothing beats the convenience of flying out of Islip. The only other airline we've flown to Disney is JetBlue. We stopped the moment they started charging for checked bags.

Jet Blue, hands down.
I can tell you to stay away from Frontier. My friend went to Chicago recently for a conference. They cancelled his flight and he was stuck there for three days before they had another flight to NY, which was delayed by five hours. First and last time he will take Frontier.

I feel the other airlines are equally sucky. But when we don’t fly JetBlue it’s typically Delta or United.

Re: Favorite airlines
I'm not picky when it comes to airlines for most trips. We go to Disney at least 2x a year, and lately we've been flying southwest. It's easy from Islip (I live 10 minutes away) and since we always go off peak, we've gotten great prices.
I HATE southwest though. I hate the whole boarding process, I hate the no assigned seats and I hate the planes themselves (no inflight entertainment, etc.) For a short trip it's fine, but anything other than that - no way.
For a longer flight, it has to be jet blue, Delta or American. I know a lot of people complain about Delta, but I have to say any problem I've had with them, they've resolved quickly and were generous with either vouchers or additional miles.
I used to like American, but I feel like they've gone downhill lately.
Jet Blue is also great - we tend to fly them a lot but always get the even more space seats.

Re: Favorite airlines
Thanks - it’s been helpful hearing peoples thoughts. I used to fly all the time, but not as much anymore. Last time I flew delta (single) I vowed never again, but that was such a long time ago so I wasn’t sure if things were better.

I fly whoever is the cheapest including Frontier. Honestly they are all the same. Generally AA has nice planes on the NYC to LA route. To FL all the airlines are the same. Oversees I will only fly non US carriers. Just because other airlines are t cheap with their services like the US carriers are.

Preferred airlines is JetBlue especially when flying with our DC due to the TVs and snacks which keeps them occupied. When it’s just DH and I we fly American or Delta but book either Main Cabin Extra, Delta Comfort Or First Class for the legroom.

Re: Favorite airlines
We do jet blue if they fly to our destination. They may be slightly more $ but they don’t oversell (so our seat is our seat), and they are always polite. I did have them cancel a flight once. It’s really hard to rebook if they cancel... you are stuck. I got my $ back but missed an entire conference due to a rainstorm.
I will not fly AA if I can help it. Had a very rude experience with them and seriously could see myself on the news. Terrible customer service.
Delta was ok last we flew. They did however cancel our entire flight and rebook me on a flight with connections for the same price. I was very upset as we booked a flight out of Philly and did the drive to Philly to avoid a connecting flight and they were completely unhelpful in helping a rebook (I had a one year old and was pregnant at the time).
