Do you have any "smart" devices?

Smart devices, connected to the Internet, and often connected to each other, are becoming more common. Do you have any smart devices?

I don't like voice command gadgets (it's hilarious watching DC try to get the PS4 to do what they ask... Chat Icon ), so I don't have an Echo or anything. I do have a TV, my Netflix box, some light switches and cameras that I can control from my phone. Considering how much of a techie I am, I really don't have very much.

I would like to get more devices, though.

My husband is a nerd. We have 3 of those xbox ones that you can talk to, light switches, google home devices in like every single room. I cant STAND it. I feel like it is easier to just do things the old fashioned way!!!

Does an amazon alexa count?

And I know DH can control the thermostat from his phone but I don't bother with that.

We also have security cameras that DH can see from an app on his phone no matter where we are.

We have so much I’ve lost track. DH loves his gadgets. He drives me nuts. We control the tv and lights through google home. I think the thermostat, too. He wants to do something with the locks but I refuse.

I don’t know what devices we use for tv. Apple TV maybe? Or a fire stick. I just tell google what to do, I don’t even know. It stopped working once and I couldn’t get peppa to play on the tv so I called DH so he could listen to DD complain during his commute home.

Same here. He has so many gadgets to do stuff and I prefer the old fashion way. I keep turning on the lights and tv "my way" and he gets really annoyed b/c they then doesn't work when he tries by using voice commands. Oh well....Chat Icon

Yup, every room. One just came for the upstairs bathroom, in case the door is closed and the one in our room or DD’s room can’t hear him Chat Icon

When I get mad at him I stand there and flip the lights switch over and over.

Ecobee thermostats, Echo, light switches (not all, just a few), Ring doorbell, even our alarm system is a smart device.

We have an echo in the kitchen and echo dot in the garage and BR. We have a smart switch on our light by the front door. We have cameras that we can view from an app. That's about it. If I upgrades switched anytime soon, it would be to get the ones that turn on automatically when you walk in the room. And I want an auto on/off light for the front door.

1 Echo, 2 Echo dots. With these, we can control most lights in our house as well as the TV. We also use our phones to control the thermostat. We also have two cameras.

Re: Do you have any "smart" devices?

DH is a big gadget nerd too! WE have an echo show, 3 regulae echos and 2 echo dots.
We can control most lights in the house through talking to echo or on an app on the phone, 3 door locks by voice or on the phone (front door, garage and back door), ech loves to announce anytime someone calls and I can't stand it. LOL
We also have the Ring and can control the thermostat too. I don't even care to use half of it.
Oh and check the garage doors too. I do like that we can check at night without leaving the bedroom to make sure garage doors are closed and all doors are locked.

Re: Do you have any "smart" devices?

Yeah, nothing. I turn off the light switch by myself. I have a smart TV, but I have no idea how to use it. That could be because I never watch TV on the TV.

Re: Do you have any "smart" devices?

My DH and I are both tech nerds haha, that’s what we get for finding each other at NJIT. So our house is set up to be a “smart” house, from lights and appliances to doors and thermostats, our TVs and sound systems, and alarm systems. I’d say I like all of it. Ohh except that my 2 YO talks to Alexa all day long and her answers are very long which becomes maddening.

My security system and door locks are “smart”. I absolutely love it! My pool will also have a smart pump where I can control it, plus lights, waterfall etc from the app. Seems like you can control your entire life from an app these days.
