Birth control- over 40
I just turned 46, looking for suggestions for birth control that will help alleviate my still-awful periods and cramps.
I was on a low dose birth control pill for a few years. My cramps/bleeding were eliminated, but it gave me bad headaches, made me moody, and raised my cholesterol.

Maybe a mirena?
i'm 45, i'm currently on my second mirena. it has been a lifesaver!
my period is now just a blip on the radar.
my periods used to be crazy; they would last so long, be so heavy, hurt so much. since i put in my first mirena in, it has changed 180*. i now only need a "light" tampon or even just a pantyliner is enough. my cramps are a minor inconvenience that i don't even bother taking meds for.
about once or twice a year, i'll get a slightly heavier period... but it's still NOTHING like they used to be.
look into it and talk to your dr.

Talk to your doctor. Only you know what will work best or you. Every one's body is different.

Yes, I will be meeting with my doctor, it would be required regardless of what route I wish to take. I was hoping to hear from women around my age what has worked well for them, prior to going over my options. That was the point of my post.

Re: Birth control- over 40
There are so many bcp options out there now. And everyone is so different , it’s more of a “gotta keep trying til you find the right fit”. I see a PP said mirena worked great for her, I’ve heard the opposite. It really just depends on your body. If you trust your dr., then follow the steps they want you to take.
Good luck. This over 40 crap is for the birds!

Birth control- over 40
I have a paraguard IUD. I often have heavy bleeding the second day of my period other than that it is wonderful.
