Other kids acting wild at playdates in your home?

I don't often invite my kids friends to play over because when they do, they seem to go insane. Running around, helping themselves to anything they desire by opening cabinets & trying to go to my basement without asking & no, they wouldn't be allowed as it's unfinished & kind of dangerous but we have toys in boxes down there so that's the appeal. They play rough with my kids toys. My son loves to build lego sets display them in his room- we've had sets broken apart. I'm finding myself hiding all the good toys & my son just asked me to box up his lego sets & put them in the garage. It's so much work to prepare for a playdate! We are talking about 6-7 year olds here. Do other kids go nuts in your homes?

Yes, which is why I never have anyone over. I would be mortified if my kids behaved this way at others houses

Yes. We’ve had that.
It’s a boy thing.
Girls will usually color and do crafts. I’m sure there are wild girls, but we haven’t had it yet.
Some boys can sit... but many will jump around and play hard. We’ve had many wild boy play dates. I set the rules and tell them they are mine and it’s absolute because it’s my house rules. No upstairs, no downstairs, food only when they arrive (controlled) and scheduled pick up time.

Yes, hide the good toys and legos! We have LEGO bins that they can play with and out constructed pieces go high out of reach.

yup.... this is why we don't do many playdates at home. they're all either at parks or indoor kids play places or the mcdonalds near us has a play area. not to stereotype too much.... but i think its a boy thing. i have 2 boys- 7 and 4 they just don't "play" well at home with toys. they're not ones that will sit and do a craft, or play with dolls or whatever. They're SUPER active, and the toys just end up being used as weapons after awhile. so, yeah, we definitely stick to playdates where they can be active and out of my house! HAHAHA

Happens all the time. Again, more with boys than girls but at least you are there to supervise. If they are at someone else's house, I have no idea what's going on.

I am probably in the minority but when DC are off from school, I like to spend time with them and not have a crazed circus of kids running around my basement.

I would kill my kid if he did that in someone's house. We've had it twice. We did a playdate with a few boys over the summer. Jumping on couches, throwing pillows, basically being wild boys. But then we had another girl and boy over...my daughter's room was wrecked! It wasn't my kids either because they kept telling me what was happening and I kept telling the other kids to stop. Those kids are no longer invited to my home.

Yes! It’s the main reason why I dread winter, at least in the other seasons I can make them go outside, but in the winter, I find myself wanting to rip my hair out bc my house seems to always have at least 1-2 other kids besides my own 4.

I have also experienced this. I wanted the kids to stay in basement. They came upstairs jumping on couches with swords. It was crazy.
We dont jump on furniture in my house.

Yeah, I just don't ger this behavior & the parent is always here as well. I'm almost 100% positive one of the kids who was over on tuesday stole a small lego part. I saw him place something into his pocket but I didn't say anything. I mean what could I have said considering I wasn't sure what he had in his hand & could have turned ugly. Not worth it for a lego part.

My niece is crazy at my house, broke multiple toys, put a hole in my wall all while BIL/ SIL were there and didn’t offer to fix the wall. Needless to say they arent allowed over. I would rather a public play date at a place or if they have a play date something in the yard where they can just run wild

Yes, we have had kids color with markers all over my son's bedroom rug. My nephew also broke the door off my sons nightstand while jumping off the bed and my SIL and BIL didn't even bat an eyelash. There are always those certain kids you just dread having over because you know every single toy in the playroom will be dumped off the shelf and parts will be everywhere.

My son is also very particular and used to build lego things only to have them all destroyed by certain friends.... We started making him put the toys and legos in my bedroom before playdates so he wouldn't get so upset.

Most of my son's friends are pretty tame now - they are in 5th grade. I just dread when my one nephew comes over because all he wants to do is tackle and wrestle my son. My son is 3 years older than him and not into that kind of behavior so my son basically just lets this kid abuse him for hours. He has actually gotten hurt. It's funny to me because my BIL has NO PROBLEM reprimanding my kids but god forbid I ask them to tell them to make their kid calm down.

Oh I would love to avoid it sometimes but in our neighborhood the kids all run back and forth between houses. It's hard to stop them. I try to plan as many family only activities so that we have alone time without the circus but sometimes it's hard to avoid.

Re: Other kids acting wild at playdates in your home?

It happens here. Now that my son is older, many playdates involve the same group of kids. I prefer to invite the kids whose parents reciprocate. So, when they are all at my house, it's crazy but when they are at another house, I can clean up the craziness. My son will be 11 soon. His wildest friends are also the ones who keep me laughing and they are actually kind hearted kids. I just keep everyone safe and know that it will just be a few hours. My son likes to have a few kids over at a time. I often limit the number of kids because it gets too crazy. Also, I hate to say it but if I give them device time, they are quiet. I may use it as a break but I want them to do more. I would not stay to stop playdates but limits are needed.

Re: Other kids acting wild at playdates in your home?

I also find that my daughter's behavior is worse when she has friends over.
When she is home alone, she is very well behaved, she listens, she doesn't talk back, she plays quietly.
When she has a friend over not only is she wild, she talks back, pays me no mind, her attitude is terrible.
Its like having other kids over emboldens her to act out.
