I have kids similar in age. I totally see where you are coming from. On the other hand, they do get soooo many papers and teachers are human too. I try to cut them some slack. If I were the teacher I would have replied differently.

PreSchool teachers make peanuts. To expect them to get to school early and be on top of every piece of paper that the school sends out is a little much. I know when my kids were in pre-K we got notices all the time for things that didn't even pertain to the school (pro-soccer kids, girl scouts, mothers groups in town, etc, etc, etc). I would be more concerned with how she is handling the class while she is there than something like this. It wouldn't even be a blip on my radar.

We very rarely get anything home from school other than an art project.
I would not expect the teacher to know what a notice was unless it was from them.

Is that still an acceptable response?
I don't think it is an inappropriate response. Those forms are for the administration. Not the teachers personal use. They just turn them into the office.
My son is in 6th grade and each class had a class contract, and if the teacher was asked about that they didn't know, then yeah, that would be weird. But the contact cards, etc, etc, that is all the office/administration. Not the teachers themselves

Option B, especially for pre k.
And no, even in professions where I believe the public should have the right to question and hold people accountable to some extent I still don’t question the logistics of how those individuals start and end their day.

B- I think pre-k teachers are angels who walk this earth so I wouldn't be bothered if she didn't know what every paper is. They're the ones teaching 3/4 year olds all day every day so they get that slack.

I'm not a teacher, but I would like to think I would run my class this way:
Get there in the morning - prep the days lessons, meet with my assistant and discuss what is happening today/any notices going out/anything we should be aware of - basically make sure we're both on the same page.
After classes are done for the day (still only 2:45 pm) - discuss with my assistant how the day went and what we have on deck for tomorrow do any prep work.
This is so far removed from what a day in the life of a teacher is truly like. This is what teaching looks like on a 30 minute sitcom.
In reality, from the minute a teacher walks in the door they have a million things thrown at them; children crying, children reporting major life issues, teaching lessons, admins walking into said lessons, phones ringing, teachers coming in to pick up children to provide support services, water bottles spilling, assistants coming into the room at some point to provide support. In the midst of all of this parents are actually asking questions like, can you tell me what was on the notice you sent home last night, I didn't have a chance to read it.
Do you know what your child's teacher was doing last night when you should have been reading the letter? They are prepping lessons, checking work, spending their own money to provide things for the classroom so your child has a positive learning experience.

In a perfect world, I would have a moment to read every letter being sent home, but when the dismissal bell rings at 2:25 and at 2:20 there’s an announcement to immediately backpack a letter, I don’t have time to inspect that letter.
We get a lot of fliers for local businesses, if I were to stop and read them all, you’d be complaining that I wasn’t teaching your child.

Agreed. I do try to read them all but sometimes there's just no time and there's so many of them handed to us. Often last minute. If it is really important, we usually get a heads up about it.

Ditto...I would be thinking that in the time you asked me, you could've read it. Our schools send home all kinds of crap from third parties. The teachers can't possibly read it all.

100% B. I'm not a teacher, but I have a DS in 8th grade and have been in different committees (auction, halloween parties, have been class parent, etc). One of those committees was the "mail box". I had to make copies of stuff happening in the school and staffed the teachers' mail boxes. I was  by the amount of papers those mail boxes had. I don't think a teacher has enough time to read all of that. As a mom, I have more time to read what comes on my DS's folder - now in MS that info barely gets to me  It is lost until I look on his backpack the last day of school

Why are schools sending home advertisements for businesses? That seems so strange.
I am not a teacher, but my first thought was are these the teacher's notices & if not when are they getting them?
If was something the techaer was organizing, like a field trip- yes I would expect her to kwo when the permission slip was due, bu tit sounds like they are just the middle-man in passing the message along. Sometimes I get the mail for my office & pass it around, but I don't pay attention to who got what.
In soem ways it's not all that different from most jobs--too much to do, too little time, and too much time taken away from what your actual job focus is supposed to be.
The teacher who doesn't pay attention to the papers from the office may actually be a better teacher because they are more focused on the lessons & in the case of pre-K, especially, the needs of very tiny children in front of them.

I teach k and sometimes notices are given to me at 2:00 and dismissal is 2:20.
My day is so crazy I really just glance at notices as I put them in folders. Many tea I can not remember what they wete.

You didn’t give this option but it is also your responsibility. I find it hard to believe that you don’t have a few seconds to glance at the note especially since you saw there was a note.

I would never bother my kids teacher with something like that, they have enough to do and if it was important enough to take the time to ask I would take the time to read the letter.

I do not find that to be an appropriate response at all. “They told me to send that email?” The teacher sent an email but didn’t read it and then proceeded to tell the parent that they chose not to read the email? Come on.
I would never send an email from my email address that I didn’t read first. And I certainly wouldn’t go telling people at work that my boss made me do things and I didn’t know why. Unprofessional.

It's for things like Boy/Girl Scouts registration, Little League teams, educational classes at the local library, events held by the fire department, PTA events, Booster club info, community food drives, etc, etc, etc.
Even though it can get very annoying and I tend to throw most of this stuff out, I do understand why the school is willing to distribute these things.

We don't get any of this in our school.
Just stuff from the PTA about their events and fundraisers etc.
Nothing outside of that.
I would find that a bit strange to be honest.
