Mums this year
Has anyone noticed that the mums being offered this year aren't bloomed yet? My dd's school was selling them a few weeks ago and i noticed none of the flowers were bloomed...just tons of buds. I thought it was odd so I didn't purchase them there. We were just out east at the place we always buy them from and again....no flowers. All tight buds. I didn't buy them because quite frankly they look like shit and with my black thumb I fear they will never bloom. I mean it's already October, shouldn't they be blooming by now? Has anyone else noticed this?

Mums this year
They are so ugly when they aren't bloomed, and I feel like mine die before they even bloom. I spent $20 on a freaking plant with half mums in it for my DD's fundraiser, the mums part still hasn't bloomed.

Re: Mums this year
both the ones we have planted and the ones we bought in pots have bloomed already. The planted ones bloomed a little later, but they're out. The potted ones seemed to bloom early i thought!

Mums this year
Mine died so quickly last year. I would rather have the tight buds. I find they last longer since they haven't bloomed yet.

We just got ours yesterday from a farm by our house. They had all nicely bloomed ones, but any chain stores all seem to have ones that havent bloomed yet.

Yes!! Everywhere I have gone they are tightly closed up which is annoying, it's October, I want them in bloom.

Yes! I just spent $80 through my DD soccer fundraiser for mums, and I’ve had them for over 2 weeks and they are still closed! Normally I’d be angry, but realistically I’ll kill them soon anyway

I bought closed buds be a use I want them to bloom when I plant them. Otherwise, the flowers are gone so quickly and I feel like I've wasted money. The ones I planted last year bloomed in June and now are blooming again.

Re: Mums this year
Maybe it's just the ones I have seen.
But I found it odd that all 3 places I saw them- DD's school sale, the farm out east, and Stop and Shop were all so tightly closed. Very strange.

Same here! I just found some nice fresh ones in Home Depot that are not bloomed. I want them to last until Thanksgiving not just Halloween!

I used to keep them potted, but last year i had some spaces in the front where we ripped bushes out and never replaced them so I wanted to fill that in... so I planted them.

How long do they last before they die and you rip them out?

Last year I got them (Fully bloomed) in late Sept and they lasted until after Thanksgiving. They die when it starts to drop below freezing too many nights in a row I find. They do like it cold- they generally last for me until the first real frost.

Yep that was what I kept finding. I wasn't going to buy them all opened already I want them to last really long. I ended up getting them all closed at costco 2 weeks ago and they opened up last week they are gorgeous now.
