Pelvic Floor? Colorectal? Dr recs PLEASE
Cross posting...
This is an embarrassing post! I’ve had weak rectal muscles since 2 childbirths over 10 years ago and What feel to me like a rectocele. My gyno never mentions it when I go so maybe not major. Anyway, I’ve become dependent on the squatty potty which is bearable. But today I had diarrhea and 2 accidents! I could not hold it in. I had to run out of work. I want to go to someone who can diagnose and help me ASAP! I called my gastro and he is out for the week. The receptionist didn’t seem too concerned. She said it could be the stomach bug. But I’ve had my share of bugs but never had an accident! I’m afraid my muscles are getting worse and I want to do everything I can to get better. I’m completely traumatized.
Anybody with similar issues and an excellent specialist to recommend? Nassau County preferred.

Dr. Dobriner is great and is a colorectal surgeon. He has 2 offices I believe one in nassau and one in suffolk. I don't know if you need to go straight to a surgeon though. But I am sure he or one of his associated associates could help.

I am not on LI so I do not have a recommendations, but I do have a grade 2 rectocele, which means I have a slight prolapse, which is not outside of my body and in general causes me no issues. When I was 9 months postpartum, I literally felt my pelvic floor drop one day while exercising. I sought out a gynourologist. The one I saw pretty much blew me off saying my prolapse was not that big of a deal and most people probably wouldn't even notice it because of how slight it was and that I was just more aware of my body. Okay, thanks lady....
Anyway, I wound up going to physical therapy for my pelvic floor. The PT taught me exercises in order to strengthen it. I only went for 6 sessions, but by the end I was able to do the exercises effectively alone. Before going the surgery route, I would definitely look into PT.

Thank you both! I didn’t know colorectal was just for surgery. I just want someone to help me with my issues. From my research, it sounds like PT might be where to start.

If you decide to see a Colonrectual surgeon just to get an opinion, I highly recommend Dr. Jules Garbus in Garden City. Getting an appointment with him takes a while, but he's really good and doesn't push for surgery if it's not necessary. I have ongoing issues after childbirth due to a 4th degree tear. I've been seeing Dr. Garbus for 4 years now. He's monitoring my progress and puts me on rounds of antibiotics to try to help heal the area, but every time we discuss surgery, he stresses that while it's an option, it isn't a good option for me because it could make things worse and right now things are tolerable.
