Backyard with No grass
Would you be interested in a house with a backyard with NO grass. Just decking, patio and pool?

Re: Backyard with No grass
My DH would LOVEEEEEE this.
He literally despises cutting a lawn.
As long as it was all well done and looked nice, not like a vast wasteland or a concrete jungle- lol- this would be a freakin' dream come true!

Re: Backyard with No grass
I would like some grass. However, I know several people who have backyards like that, and they are very happy with them.

Backyard with No grass
I think with young kids and animals it doesn’t make too much sense. I do think you need to add some greenery so it looks homey.

Backyard with No grass
I'm from Queens so this is totally normal to me. When I was a kid, I preferred my friends' concrete yards to my grass one. I would have no issue with it at all.

Backyard with No grass
No, I like a large yard with plenty of grass space for kids to run and play, I wouldn’t want my kids running on my deck. I have a large patio and deck area but still a nice size yard, I wouldn’t buy a house without grass

Re: Backyard with No grass
For me it would be a deal breaker. I need and want grass. My BFF just bought a house in the last year and had the entire yard done in pavers and added a pool. Not one inch of grass. They love it and since it's a forever home they weren't worried about resale value.

Backyard with No grass
to me it depends on the size of the yard -- are you talking about a 40x100 or 50x100 lot? Or an acre of land? If it is a small lot and it looks well done, manicured, etc then it wouldnt bother me as much as a bigger lot

Thank you for the feedback.
Lot size is .30. Grass in front and side but not large enough area for children to play.

Re: Backyard with No grass
I'd prefer a small grassy area, but less than what I have now. It would not be a dealbreaker on a house for me, though. For a lawn area, it's either expensive to hire someone to maintain or it's exhausting trying to maintain it yourself. We've done it both ways and it sucks either way!

If you love everything else about the house I wouldn't walk away. Decks and patios can be removed.

Backyard with No grass
I have seen some beautiful yards that do not have any grass area, but for me it would be a deal breaker because I have a dog and would always want him to be able to go out in the yard to do his business (not on a deck or pavers etc)

My DH would love this! For me it would depend on how much I loved the house.

Re: Backyard with No grass
I think it depends on the individual buyer's lifestyle and how they intend to use the yard.
I have a friend with a "grotto" style backyard - all stone patio and cabana style furniture and huge in ground pool. They love it! They entertain a lot and their boys (who are older elementary/middle school) like it.
Some people like more of a green look, or want more grass space for swingsets and play space for kids and/or pets.
Depending on what's there - there may be room to compromise. I mean, a deck can always be cut back to reveal more yard space. An above ground pool can be removed.
So if everything else is great with the house, and the yard itself is a decent size, and it's merely how the yard is being currently utilized that is not to your taste, I'd consider whether it could be revamped to work better for you.
