Transfering photos from phone
Does anyone know the easiest way to get photos from my phone to a thumb drive? Do I need to save to computer first?
Any other suggestions on how to store photos? I have google drive but ran out of space.
Thanks

I have a micro SD card in my phone, I can save all my pics to it, then put it in the PC. Do you have a micro SD slot?

To get them on a thumb drive you have to upload them to your computer then transfer to the drive, yes.

Is there a slot for one? If so, that's what you do. You have to take the battery out. I have an android phone though, not an Iphone

This would be the easiest way. If you have the cloud synced to a laptop then you can just save them to a drive from there too. I store photos on shutterfly as well.

I would sync them to Google Photos on your phone. Then login on your computer and you can save it from there to a thumb drive.

Transfering photos from phone
so weird that you posted this because I'm doing this right now. My computer doesn't have enough storage to hold all of my photos so I can't even back it up. I had to download some app that links to Dh's external hard drive cloud service, and i'm backing everything up now. Then, I can take from his cloud and save to my drive. My phone had 3,600 photos/videos, and I've been backing up for 1 hour, and still have 3,145 to go ughhhhh
UPDATE: it was taking too long so Dh went into the itunes settings on my computer. You can set the backup settings to save to a drive instead of the computer, so he did that about 10 mins ago and about half of my 3,600 photos have already been backed up. You just plug your phone in and the drive you plan on using, select the backup location, and start the backup

I also use the micro SD card. Most phones have the slot. But you can use various adapters or thumb drives, as long as it has a micro USB plug.
Look for a Cable with a male micro USB connector-to-female full size USB port. Or some thumb drives have a regular size USB on one end and a micro USB on the other end. I have also used a micro SD card to USB adapter (reader) Best Buy has a number of these as well as Amazon.

as long as you have the phone plug into the computer the same time as the drive you can tranfer photos from the phone directly to your drive.
just open the drive from the computer then open your phone and just copy the photos from the phone to the drive

Ok I had 4200 videos/photos that I needed to back up. I downloaded them to my comp but the last time I did that my phone and my comp took a shit and I lost them all. I wanted to save to an alternate drive to be safe

I have it but I ran out of space. I tried to upgrade and some of the files are too big.

I don't think there's a limit on storage for Google Photos.

Drive and Photo are related. As long as you don't use the "full image size" option (which most phones don't take pics anywhere near high-resolution enough to need that option), you have unlimited photo storage. If you let Google resize any of the bigger photos, it will make them fit, so no photo will be too big for the unlimited free storage.

Samsung Galaxy 9
With Samsung you Can do google photos or a memory card. In the s9 the memory card slot is on the top of the phone together where the SIM card is. You can pop the tray open with a a paper clip. That would be the fastest way to transfer
