How does child get job with no HS Diploma

Maybe I am thinking too far ahead... DS is in elementary school but was told he will def not get a Regents diploma ( I kind of figured that) but could possibly never get a HS Diploma? How is he going to get a job? He is high functioning just having a lot of problems with academics. in the sense of reading and writing. He could probably be hold a hands on \ vocational job but how without a HS Diploma? Anyone in this situation?

There are very few jobs to get without a degree, that will let you live independently. Your goal if able is to try to get the degree. Do not let the school tell you at this young of an age that he will not be graduating. That is ludicrous to even say unless it is is absolutely obvious that is the case. If your son is high functioning then thee is no reason why they can not be working towards that goal. There are so many options now including vocational training on how to get a degree and they can also stay in school until 21 to keep trying.

There is zero difference between a Regent's Diploma and a regular diploma. A regular diploma is called a "Local diploma". My son graduated with a local diploma. Which is the same as a regular diploma in any other state. Both will get them a job, enlist them in the military, get them into college.

I didn't think my son would even get a local diploma. He only did because the Regent's tests rules changed the year he was graduating. I'm proud to say, he will be starting a job at Shoprite soon with the help of ACCESS-VR and his job coach! So stay positive!!!

My advice is to take one day at a time. Don't look so far ahead (so much can change). I know... easier said then done.

You mentioned problems with reading and writing... have you looked into vision therapy and had his primitive reflexes checked? My LO just started doing exercises to get his reflexes integrated and it's suppose to help with reading, writing, and math.
