Buying into neighborhood or keep looking?

If you could buy into your dream neighborhood and build your dream home would it be worth it?
Or keep looking until you find something and settle?
We are currently under contract in our house. We were outbid 13 years ago for our favorite neighborhood. We now come to the market wiser, more money and ready to buy since we're under contract we have to make a move within 90 days. Do I wait and hope and pray something comes out but then we'd be with 15 other buyers OR buy into neighborhood probably rent until house gets rebuilt with dormer and make it a large colonial. Any help or suggestions??
I'm looking south Nassau in desirable neighborhood that most people want and love.

Sorry, I'm not following. You need to move and you are wondering if you should rent? I'm confused by "buy into neighborhood and rebuild."

Wondering if we should wait for a house to hopefully pop up or would you custom build a home?
1. Wait is risky and we have 90 days right now to move.
2. Buy and built (to build in dream area we’d have to rent while house gets built).
Sorry if it wasn’t clear.

It sounds like either way, you have to rent. And even if you found something, it still takes a few months before you actually close.

Thank you for your reply. I guess I have to hold onto hope and what’s meant to be! Thanks ??

Where are you looking?

I was in a similar situation a few years ago. Luckily a house popped up. If you're comfortable renting and building I would do that. You can design the home of your dreams that way. You can't predict what will pop up, no way of knowing.

Right!! We haven’t been looking for long but I guess because we sold so quick and have to move feeling pressured. Wantagh south of Jerusalem Ave.

There is tons of new construction over there. I’d be surprised if something didn’t pop up.

I assume you want that area specifically because you want wantagh schools?

Yes, we bought a starter home in a crappy district. Got hit by Sandy and after 12 years finally ready to get out. My daughter will start MS in the fall so looking for forever now.
