cruise deals

Are there any cruise deals that happen once or twice a year?

Next february is my aunts 80th birthday. So we were thinking of going down to FL where she lives and taking her on a cruise.

We can't just take her on a vacation with us because she really can't be in the sun. She had a liver transplant 7 years ago and the meds she's on, increase skin cancer.

Anyway... we were thinking about a cruise. This way she can still do other things (gamble, shows, bingo, etc etc) or park herself in the shade by the pool if she wants.

So there would be 3 adults and 3 kids going.

Any frequent cruise people want to share how they get a good deal on them?

Re: cruise deals

Royal Caribbean usually does a kids sail free promotion. It might actually be going on now. If not you can book something and then price adjust when they do have the sale.

If you have a Costco membership take a look at their travel promotions. I have booked several trips through them and have gotten the same discount as the boat and onboard discounts.

The earlier that you book the better. Next February break really should be booked now. Then you can price watch it and they will adjust to a lower price when you call up until final payment. I should warn you though, it’s not the cruise that will be overly expensive for February break. The flights are insanely expensive. Our flights usually cost more per person than a 7 day cruise!

We always cruise with NCL and they are always having promotions on and off- usually it's pick your promotions (up to 5) with things like onboard credits, room upgrades, unlimited drinks, free wi-fi, specialty dining, shore excursions, reduced airfare, etc. Also I believe the 3rd person in any cabin sails free. They're having the promotion right now actually, but it looks like it's mostly for 2019 dates.

NCL.com

ETA: I like NCL because it's freestyle dining. I know a lot of other cruise lines are also moving away from a set dining time with shared tables and all that old school cruising stuff, but NCL was one of the only or few when we started cruising.

I don't see a kids sail free promotion. Only 60% off 2nd guest. Where do you see that?

Ahh I see, thank you. But they only have listed 2019 for dates. Nothing for 2020.

Do I have to wait until they’re next kids sail free promotion for 2020?

Re: cruise deals

You can book now if you are comfortable with the pricing and then when they offer the sale for 2020 sailings call and have your fare price adjusted.

I always price everything out directly on their site so I know what promotions should be as far as obc etc. Last cruise we booked through Costco Travel as we got an additional costco cash card on top of what rate was direct through Royal.

Sorry for all the questions but total newbie with cruises. But now only certain cruises have the kids sail free right? So I want to make sure it’s one listed and hope they run it again on the one I book?

This.
DH and I cruised this past June and had our fare adjusted 3 times.
We paid $1200 less than the original booked price and got some extra perks too.

Book as early as you can, we always book directly with RC because we want specific cabins, and if there ever is an issue, we deal directly with the cruise line instead of a third party.

Re: cruise deals

ok one last question.

Can you add a person later?

My brother is on the fence about going. He would just be bunking in 1 of the rooms if he went.

Can i book it and then add another person to one of the rooms?

I'm not 100% familiar with this but I believe it would be better to book him and then cancel him if you need to. If the ship happens to be full you wouldn't be able to add him later. Also you'd want to make sure you get a room that can accommodate the extra person.

There is no guaranty on the kids sail free future promotions but we almost always go for a week in January and it has never been excluded. I've also priced February in the past and it was also included.

Good luck!

Re: cruise deals

Thanks everyone!!!! a few more questions...

The drink packages:
1- definitely worth it for my husband, but for me i'm not a big drinker. Definitely not a day drinker and more of a glass of wine or two with dinner. Is it worth getting for me? How much is a glass of wine without it?

Re: cruise deals

Probably not worth it if you aren't a big drinker. Wine would be about $10/glass.

If you are booking as more than 1 cabin put one adult in each room and just get drink package for him. He would be able to get glass of wine here and there and give to you.

Re: cruise deals

ok one more opinion question because you guys have been so helpful...

do you choose which itinerary you like the most and then which cruise line and/or ship?

or do you compromise on the itinerary for a nice newer ship?

The one i like is an older ship which my husband isn't keen on. (PR, Haiti, st maarten, st thomas, etc). Which is the Adventure of the Seas.

Adventure of the Seas is a great ship. It may not be royal Caribbean’s newest ship but don’t let that scare you away. I have been on it a few times and always enjoyed it.
