Aruba-Safe??
Hi, Okay so I mentioned in another post that I’m going to Aruba end of April. I was SO excited until the past couple of days, when I’ve been hearing all over the news about the unrest in Venezuela.
I am freaking out!! All of these Venezuelan refugees are now going to Aruba, and I’ve read that they’re robbing tourists. If it was just me and DH I probably wouldn’t think twice about it, but we’re going to have our kids with us. BTW there are no travel advisories {yet}.
Has anyone been to Aruba very recently? Did you feel unsafe??

Aruba-Safe??
Aruba is one of the safest places that we've ever been. I would not worry but like anywhere else, just aware of your surroundings.
Edited - we own a home on Aruba and have only had one issue. My FIL had the car stolen but it was like why? There was no where for the crooks to take the car - it was found a few hours later

Re: Aruba-Safe??
Aruba is a huge tourist destination. I’m sure they are going to be policing the tourist areas to be sure there are no reports of thievery.
Costa Rica had a huge “safe destination” push years ago when it was becoming hot. It was one of the questions they asked all visitors at the airport (how safe did you feel).
Even Mexico had machine gun wielding military policing the beaches. No one approached the people at the beach and resorts (and we went during Mexican Mother’s Day, so resorts were packed with South Americans on breaks).
Final point is that many Venezuela (and Nairobi) refugees are coming to my neighborhood. They are actually very, very, very (super) affluent and are getting out for safety. So it depends on the refugee.

I can't imagine it would be any less safe than Mexico to be honest.

Okay, thank you, I feel better! I just need to relax a little bit in general. My one friend takes her kids all over the place...Mexico, Morocco, and it doesn't phase her. I have to be more like that!

I’m like your friend.. my son has been to Aruba & Mexico multiple times, Dubai, Bahrain. To me it’s no less safer than taking him into Manhattan. Lol.
We went to Aruba in August and it was safe, we walked to dinner along the strip. We went to Mexico in August as well, safe as well.
