Nice pants
I almost always prefer to wear dresses over pants. Not to say I never wear pants - I do, especially this time of year when I'm done with boots and tights, but not yet ready for bare legs. I have a dinner coming up at an upscale-ish restaurant, but in a relaxed, touristy beach town, so I was thinking maybe pants. But definitely not jeans, and I would prefer not to wear dress work pants. So, is there anything else?  Any ideas and suggestions would be very welcome!

I have a pair of ponte knit pants from J.Jill that I like.
They are pull on, no pockets, flat elastic waist, with a wider pant leg. A heavier weight so they don't look like yoga pants or leggings. They drape beautifully and I can dress them up or dress them down.

Or perhaps a jumpsuit/romper, I bought this one at Nordstroms and love it:
