Spin off of the last day of school post
No disrespect to the OP, but are we really complaining about this?
Didn't we all love the last day of school as a kid? Isn't it a great feeling?
I get it, it's a pain in the ass. I am a working parent, I do not work near my child's school. My child is older now and can walk home and be home alone, but when he was younger, I made accommodations. Or I took the day off and did something fun with him.
Idk. Why is the fun sucked out of everything?

Re: Spin off of the last day of school post
I think it would be more "fun" to have a full day yesterday and be off completely today. Instead of her having to get up at 7 am both days- to go to school for a few hours. An earlier summer break is always more fun then dragging yourself in for half days. My daughter found nothing fun about these past 2 days to be honest.

Spin off of the last day of school post
Yeah exactly! My sons school had a full day last day on Tuesday. He didnt have to go in for one hour today. What do parents do who drop off? Leave the car running??? Craziness.

Re: Spin off of the last day of school post
I used to love the last day of school when I was young. It was fun getting your report card and seeing who your teacher is going to be next year and asking your friends who they had, etc. Getting into high school it was also fun because we did fun things with our friends like go swimming (or drinking), etc.
I kind of think they sucked the fun out of not giving final report cards and assigned teachers now. I only had that in elementary school. After that, it was all mail. I can just remember calling up friends in high school- what’s your schedule and seeing when we could eat lunch together.
I get it’s a pain, but it’s kind of like if they cancelled Christmas or something. That half day is fun!

Re: Spin off of the last day of school post
DS went in for an hour today. Played games. Got back on the bus and came home.
I don't have the PTO days to take the day off and do something fun with him. I wish I did, but I can't, and neither can DH. So it was just an annoying day.

Re: Spin off of the last day of school post
My kids have school all the way until Friday. They have a half day tomorrow and a half day Friday. My husband and I are fortunate enough to be able to take PTO days for things like this and we turn the last day of school into a celebration. It's probably one of the only days the whole school year when my kids pop out of bed in the morning with no complaining because of all of the excitement.

Spin off of the last day of school post
I'd much rather they go in for a full day or at least a half day for the last day. But to be honest, it doesn't really bother me. I work full time in NYC. I asked my babysitter to pick her up and watch her for me until I get home. Not a big deal to me. But I understand why people get annoyed by it.

My child goes to aftercare on half days So I don’t have an issue, but if I didn’t have that option I would be super annoyed with this week since it was 3 half days. People who work are having to take a lot of extra time off...

Re: Spin off of the last day of school post
I live in PA now and my DS goes to catholic school. HIs last week of school goes like this:
M, T: 11:30 am dismissal. (They start at 7:35 every day); Wed: OFF (teacher in service day) TH, F: 11:30 am dismissal.
There was no aftercare on those half days up until this year when we had new after care coordinators. So every year it was a sh*T show coordinating those half days. Im fortunate I can work from home in a pinch.
I do try to take the last day off to meet DS at pickup and do something fun.

Re: Spin off of the last day of school post
Please understand that I wasn't complaining about it, just trying to gather info about district procedures here. I couldn't find the answer on the internet, and I wasn't able to get to the library in Long Beach that subscribes to a database with NYS educational law. I'm a PTA council delegate, and they're trying to be more energy and $$ efficient overall. In my research on an Ed. Database, an educational law was passed in Illinois in 2012 eliminating this last hour for monetary/facilities/employee efficiency. It just seemed wasteful to run 10 buildings in my district for an hour of nothing, since everything is electronic and they changed the way they make classes up. I used to lose sleep from the excitement of going in for that last hour, getting my report card and running out to the playground to see who would be in my class next year. I loved it too.

It wasn't your post itself, it was the subsequent complaints
