Pat Med schools (spec ed. question)

Ok So we are moving from Sachem to Pat Med. My girls would be in Barton.

One of my daughters will be entering 1st and my other daughter will be entering 4th. my 9 year old is in Special Ed in a 12:1:1 class. Does anyone know if Barton has a 12:1:1 class there? If not, do you know where she would go? I get so nervous when it come to changes for my daughter and hope Pat med is good for her.

So i don't know the answer to your question, BUT I would be shocked if they didn't. Aside from RVC schools which are "all inclusive" (which i hate by the way- the student with disabilities don't have their needs adequately met there IMO), I don't know of any other districts that wouldn't have self contained placement. If her IEP says her setting needs to be 12:1:1, then she should get that or whatever is closest. I have seen 15:1:1 before, but that isn't much different. I think you'll be fine

I would call the special ed office or Barton’s main office to see...I am in a neighboring district and we don’t have every setting in every building...we have our ICT and 15:1 in one building, 12:1 in another, and 8:1:1 and 6:1:2 in another. That seems to be very common now since budgets are tighter and districts want to fill classes.

My experience with special ed throughout Suffolk County, is that when a child changes districts, if the old IEP says the child requires a setting the new district doesn't have, the new district CSE will change the placement recommendation to match what is available in the district.
