Re: Did you know there are bills In the works to mandate the HPV vaccine?

I’m sure my opinion is going to be unpopular, but here goes.
Should it be mandated? I’m on the fence on this one. I tend to lean more that it should be. Kids start experimenting with sex earlier these days. Getting them to get the vaccine before that starts to happen is important. This in turn would help it spreading around the school. Teenagers can change partners real quick. Why not protect them?
Wouldn't each parent making that choice themselves be a better option than it being mandated by the government? So if you think it's a good idea, then you get to make that choice for your family. My friend's son had a serious adverse reaction, as have quite a lot of kids, so I will be opting not to get it for my children. It's not the government's place to make a medical decision for my child. This vaccine doesn't cover all strains of hpv, and even one of the lead developers of Gardasil now speaks out against it. It's a slippery slope when politicians (many who are well funded by the pharmaceutical industry), forces medical products (by a pharmaceutical company that has zero liability since 1986 if there is an adverse reaction), on our children. Next will be any of the over 200 vaccines currently in development. Adult mandates will be next.
Well, you seem to use the big Pharma argument, so having a reasonable discussion is futile.
I don’t have any kids, but if the government mandated vaccines, I would not be happy because I hate needles. I’m deathly afraid of them. That being said, I would get it because it’s a benefit to society and that’s the responsible thing to do. I’m sorry that your friend had a reaction, but that is anecdotal evidence. Actual scientific evidence makes your point moot.
As for the government making “medical” decisions, it is a safety issue. But I guess don’t vaccinate your kids and watch them have problems later in life? If I could protect someone against cancer, then I would with a vaccination. It’s common sense and the rhetoric about how bad vaccinations are is really through the roof. I can’t believe how many people can’t critically think and actually look at real science.

Re: Did you know there are bills In the works to mandate the HPV vaccine?
I am as pro-vax as one can get but I am totally against mandatory vaccination here. I support mandatory vaccines for school settings as infectious disease can be spread while students are in close proximity in the classroom. HPV should not ever be transmitted in the school setting. Children should not even be at risk other than by behavior by their own choice, outside the school setting. Making this vaccine mandatory is asinine.
For the record, I will be vaccinating my children with the HPV by choice.

No, my argument is not the big pharma argument. It's that this is a decision that should be left up to PARENTS. If you think anecdotal evidence isn't important, then I pray that if you have children one day that they don't have a reaction. My child had a severe reaction to Dtap. Call it anecdotal or whatever you like, but my child stopped breathing after that vaccine. If you think that these studies are completely legit, then that is your prerogative to believe that. Either way, parental choice being taken away should scare you as an American.

Isn’t Hep B also an STD and vaccine given at birth?
I was thinking this as well when I started thinking about the mandated vaccines for school etc. It is considered an STD but from my understanding it is also more airborne. I believe you can get it from an infected person coughing on foods etc. Where as HPV is not.
I just don't know why we have to give it to the kids so young. My son has to get the Meningitis and Dtap vaccines this year, Idk if I want to get him to have HPV shot as well. I was researching and if you wait till they're older its 3 doses vs 2. Im going to speak to his pediatrician when we go get his shots.

Hep B is not airborne. Only transmitted via body fluids.

The democrats were on a roll this past legislative session.
Please watch the documentary Sacrificial Virgins before allowing your children to receive.
I am old enough to remember when the HPV shot came out. They just lowered he age to receive to SEVEN and passing bills to administer to your child WITHOUT your consent. Wtf!
I’m sure most of us are, it’s only a bit over 10 years old.
I also can’t imagine they vaccinate without consent. I don’t alert my child’s school when they receive a vaccine. How would they know they weren’t double dosing?
There are two bills that would allow vaccination without parental knowledge or consent on the table. You are right, how would they know if they were double dosing? It's terrifying. But yes, it can (and did) happen. A school nurse gave a child Gardasil in the Bronx a few months back, and this isn't even a law yet. But surely it will be if people don't contact their local legislators. Here are links to the bills. https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2019/s3899 https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2019/s4244
My friend is a school nurse, they have the vaccines in the nurses office. They are supposed to contact the parents prior to administering any vaccine but look at what happened in the bronx. I always add in red ink on those emergency contact cards to basically not to any test or procedure with out first getting approval from me or my husband.
Is it just HPV the school nurse has or all vaccines? I'm surprised schools would stock any. I don't think vaccines are cheap, they probably expire, and I'd never heard of anyone getting vaccines at school.
I was surprised too. I'm not sure what they stock or how frequently they are administered. I asked her after the story about the child in the bronx that had the HPV without consent.
It's heading in the direction of school nurses having vaccines in their office. Especially once these bills pass. Then they can pretty much do whatever they want, regardless of what the parents want. First they took away all exemptions that aren't medical (which is basically impossible to get), then allow them to be given without parental knowledge or consent. Then your school nurse will administer them. After that, they will be mandated for adults to get all the shots they never had, and regular boosters. Little by little they are laying the groundwork for this.
I know that it seems insane!
Bc the HPV isn’t mandatory how would the nurse know if they’ve received it or not? What if a child didn’t want their parents to know. Then the parent got it for them and they received it twice?
There is NO place for them at school. It’s a medical procedure. When the flu shot comes to my work and people get it in the conference room I think it’s effing disgusting!
Why is it disgusting to get a flu shot at your place of employment? It’s actually very convenient and very clean if you believe in the shot or have very severe medical conditions like I do that may kill you if you get the flu.
At this point in time I don’t believe in this mandated hpv vaccine, but your stance and arguments on any vaccines really has me scratching my head. Even your timeline on the vaccines seem to be off.
Yes it is my opinion it is disgusting to give a flu shot or ANY medical procedure at my place of employment. Work isn’t the time for medical procedures. I have no problem when the blood donation bus comes and sits outside. Not in the conference room.
If you personally feel you need the flu shot. Then get it.
How is my timeline off? I don’t need my 9 year old EVER getting a vaccination, medical procedure, stitches, Benadryl WITHOUT my knowledge or consent.

My husband was vaccine injured as a child. Multiple issues he carries with him through today. It is clear as day in his file that it was a direct result of a specific injection.
HPV aid a personal choice and should never be mandated. Same as the flu. I will never agree to a flu shot personally.

I don’t plan on having children for a few reasons— sleep, money, and the environment. Adding more people to this planet just makes it worse for climate change.
If I believe in these studies? It’s science. What isn’t to believe? Maybe your efforts to stop this should be better spent on doing an actual scientific study. I had a very bad reaction to a certain medication and I am in a support group for it. That being said, I realize that there are no actual studies for this medication. Everyone reacts differently. So yeah, it is anecdotal evidence.
Where do you draw the line on parental choice? So you can do what you want and not have to worry about the rest of society? That’s extremely selfish. This mandatory bill has come into place because so many people won’t vaccinate because of some bunk study done.
The vaccine has to be done early. If you don’t do it then you risk the chance of your child spreading/contracting it. So I guess kudos to you for promoting an STD that can be helped.
And please don’t give me the you should be scared as an American line. That’s the most ridiculous line I’ve read today.
So where’s the petition that is the opposite of this? I’ll gladly sign that.

Oh, please with the choice and parenting. You have to draw the line with choice and how it affects other members of society.
So you want to let your child walk around with knives or guns because it’s your choice? You want to homeschool, which is illegal where I live, and send them out into society with not enough knowledge? You want to get rid of a vaccine against something that can cause cancer? Go ahead. Thank God I don’t live by you because all you wanted was a parental choice with no regards to the rest of society.
I believe in having a choice for your own body, but I also believe that you have to think about the rest of the population in that choice.

Re: Did you know there are bills In the works to mandate the HPV vaccine?
I have to be honest, the thought of any medical procedure or testing being done at school makes me very uncomfortable I mean other than if there is an emergency and the nurse has to administer first aid of course. But DH told me when he was in elementary school in the late 70's and early 80s they would call them down to the nurses office and a doctor would "check them for hernias" He said it was super uncomfortable and to this day it makes him feel weird. Like what the EFF was that? An excuse for some perv to fondle young boys' testicles? I'm sorry but that is just gross and disturbing. And why on earth is it so urgent to find out if they have a hernia? In school? I feel like when it comes to my child, i want to be in the room for ANY procedure, check up or test she has done. In this day and age of pedophiles running rampant, you better fuking believe nobody is touching my child without me being present. Doing medical procedures in school is just fodder for this kind of perverted shit to go on. I have chosen my doctor for a reason. I have a doctor for her. I don't need school getting involved. She goes to school to learn. You want to test her vision and hearing? Fine. Even that I don't find necessary. Her doctor tests her for that at her yearly check up too. But whatever. Anything more invasive than that does NOT belong in school. The school nurse should be there to take care of sick or injured kids during the school day. To administer medicines to kids who need it daily under a DOCTOR"S orders. Nothing more. Everything else should be up to your own private doctor.

I totally agree with you! I remember in school getting called for scoliosis testing and having to take my shirt off and bend over in front of the gym teachers!!!
Yet my parents had to submit my yearly physical. So why is a freaking gym teacher qualified to check me for scoliosis?

We get flyers home for every little thing going on in the school. Even though we submit a physical, including a vision and hearing eval they did an evaluation on my daughter with our prior notice. We were going on a bike ride and she was telling me how in computer lab she had her blood pressure checked. Nobody ever said a thing. In reality is it a big deal? No, but my kid doesn't get any procedure without my consent. Especially when we receive notifications on everything else going on. How hard is it to do a phone blast or send a letter?

I didn’t understand it you mean physically disgusting or you were disgusted at the procedure. If people get it and like having that option available to then why would it be disgusting. I can see being disgusted if they were forcing employees to get the shot. I’m not disgusted by people who don’t get it.
I do get the flu shot and don’t care what other think. Everyone has their own opinions, no one has to agree with me and my decision.
As for timeline, I was referring to your comment of being aware of the hpv vaccine when it First came out. We are all adults, so it was an odd statement since it hasn’t been around that long. It has nothing to do with your child and medical procedures.

I thought there was a spread when someone who was working at an ice cream shop had Hepatitis. But I could be wrong, that is what I mean by easily transmissible. But I could be wrong.

Isn’t that great you have the CHOICE? I believe in the right to choose what is right for your child.
My husband was vaccine injured as a child. Multiple issues he carries with him through today. It is clear as day in his file that it was a direct result of a specific injection.
HPV aid a personal choice and should never be mandated. Same as the flu. I will never agree to a flu shot personally.
Not lighting my child on fire to keep you warm!
I didn’t say I want to get rid of a vaccine. I didn’t say I wanted my children to walk around with guns and knives. I didn’t say I wanted to homeschool which btw is LEGAL in america. And actually I support someone who does WANT to. I do not want to, but if it’s your choice go ahead. Stop putting words in my mouth.
Not putting words in your mouth. I’m simply comparing it to where the choice should be drawn. Again your somewhat selfish attitude seems to show through because all you can think about is YOUR child. There are other people in this world. There are too many in fact.
Homeschooling is illegal where I live, for good reason. How can a parent simply teach the curriculum if they aren’t certified teachers? This goes against your scoliosis argument with regards to gym teachers.
I hated the scoliosis checkups, but they found out that I did have scoliosis and my parents got me real quick for treatment and checkups. I was on the border of getting a brace. I’m sure gym teachers have some credentials for checking bones and the spine. It isn’t like some parent saying I can teach my kid 1st-12th grade.

No, kids with Hep B are allowed to attend school. I think you are thinking of Hep A.

So you live outside the US? Because homeschooling is legal in every state in the US. Also, homeschooled children tend to score higher or standardized tests. So you should make sure you know what you are talking about before making random incorrect comments. https://www.nheri.org/research-facts-on-homeschooling/

I'm curious to learn where homeschooling is illegal? If you're in another country is it possible that the children in your country have less vaccines that are mandated to attend school?

Yes, I live outside of the US. I’d really like to see the controls used in this research. There are a lot of other factors, such as economic status, that can affect the studies on your website.
My information isn’t incorrect. As a teacher, I just can’t see how a parent can pretend to be a teacher and fulfill the curriculum. They are two separate roles.
