I am as pro-vax as one can get but I am totally against mandatory vaccination here. I support mandatory vaccines for school settings as infectious disease can be spread while students are in close proximity in the classroom. HPV should not ever be transmitted in the school setting. Children should not even be at risk other than by behavior by their own choice, outside the school setting. Making this vaccine mandatory is asinine.

For the record, I will be vaccinating my children with the HPV by choice.

Isn’t that great you have the CHOICE? I believe in the right to choose what is right for your child.

My husband was vaccine injured as a child. Multiple issues he carries with him through today. It is clear as day in his file that it was a direct result of a specific injection.

HPV aid a personal choice and should never be mandated. Same as the flu. I will never agree to a flu shot personally.

Oh, please with the choice and parenting. You have to draw the line with choice and how it affects other members of society.

So you want to let your child walk around with knives or guns because it’s your choice? You want to homeschool, which is illegal where I live, and send them out into society with not enough knowledge? You want to get rid of a vaccine against something that can cause cancer? Go ahead. Thank God I don’t live by you because all you wanted was a parental choice with no regards to the rest of society.

I believe in having a choice for your own body, but I also believe that you have to think about the rest of the population in that choice.

Not lighting my child on fire to keep you warm!

I didn’t say I want to get rid of a vaccine. I didn’t say I wanted my children to walk around with guns and knives. I didn’t say I wanted to homeschool which btw is LEGAL in america. And actually I support someone who does WANT to. I do not want to, but if it’s your choice go ahead. Stop putting words in my mouth.

Not putting words in your mouth. I’m simply comparing it to where the choice should be drawn. Again your somewhat selfish attitude seems to show through because all you can think about is YOUR child. There are other people in this world. There are too many in fact.

Homeschooling is illegal where I live, for good reason. How can a parent simply teach the curriculum if they aren’t certified teachers? This goes against your scoliosis argument with regards to gym teachers.

I hated the scoliosis checkups, but they found out that I did have scoliosis and my parents got me real quick for treatment and checkups. I was on the border of getting a brace. I’m sure gym teachers have some credentials for checking bones and the spine. It isn’t like some parent saying I can teach my kid 1st-12th grade.

So you live outside the US? Because homeschooling is legal in every state in the US. Also, homeschooled children tend to score higher or standardized tests. So you should make sure you know what you are talking about before making random incorrect comments. https://www.nheri.org/research-facts-on-homeschooling/

Yes, I live outside of the US. I’d really like to see the controls used in this research. There are a lot of other factors, such as economic status, that can affect the studies on your website.

My information isn’t incorrect. As a teacher, I just can’t see how a parent can pretend to be a teacher and fulfill the curriculum. They are two separate roles.

So what are the mandated vaccines in your country? Are kids mandated to get Hep B even though children with Hep B can attend school? Curious to see if your situation is even comparable to parents in NY.

So what you're saying is that these studies aren't accurate, BUT any study on vaccination is?? Interesting.

Then by your comment, some of us can't see how a school nurse can pretend to know what is best for OUR children.

I really feel people who don't have children should refrain from making comments on topics that don't pertain to them. It's similar to the whole abortion debate IMO. A man's opinion on something he will never have to deal or go through with is pointless and not warranted.

I'm curious to learn where homeschooling is illegal? If you're in another country is it possible that the children in your country have less vaccines that are mandated to attend school?

It is illegal in Germany. You can only do it in very special circumstances. As for vaccinations, it isn’t mandatory, but there is something trying to be passed that would make it mandatory. If you don’t, then your child cannot attend Kindergarten and Kita, which is pre-school (ages 3-6), and you will receive a fine of about $3,000. I hope it goes through. Since you have a choice for your health care (public and private— I have public), and you have to pay for it, I really don’t want to pay more since lazy parents will not vaccinate their kids. It affects society as a whole.

Please keep in mind there are MANY children homeschooled bc they have cancer, anxiety, broken legs, injured in some way. Also due to bullying.

On Long Island I personally knew a few people who choose this. However in other states it is a HUGE thing! I haven’t researched too much since it doesn’t apply to me but these children turn out extremely successful. I have briefly read some studies.

There is also now the option of online public school.
So while the child is "home" he or she is being taught by certified teachers- just virtually.

A school nurse is a nurse. They are versed in medical knowledge.

And I can’t comment because I don’t have children. Wow, that was really harsh. It does pertain to me. Don’t vaccinate your child and it affects my elderly parents and relatives! Don’t vaccinate and it affects my colleagues and I have to work extra time!

Your I don’t think people who don’t have children should not comment was extremely below the belt. You want to have a child, then that is your decision. But you don’t get to make decisions for the rest of society based on what you want. I’m a part of the world’s population and I have rights, too.

I really feel people who don't have children should refrain from making comments on topics that don't pertain to them. It's similar to the whole abortion debate IMO. A man's opinion on something he will never have to deal or go through with is pointless and not warranted.

This comment always rubs me the wrong way. So because she chose to not have children (and I can't) that's makes our opinion or views on vaccines as a whole irrelevant? People not vaccinating can and will affect EVERYONE including adults of all kinds - parents & non-parents. If she was telling you personally how you should be parenting, maybe you'd have some point (kinda like a priest telling a newly married couple about what marriage is) and even then, she may have knowledge you don't have being a teacher.

The democrats were on a roll this past legislative session.

Please watch the documentary Sacrificial Virgins before allowing your children to receive.

I am old enough to remember when the HPV shot came out. They just lowered he age to receive to SEVEN and passing bills to administer to your child WITHOUT your consent. Wtf!

I’m sure most of us are, it’s only a bit over 10 years old.

I also can’t imagine they vaccinate without consent. I don’t alert my child’s school when they receive a vaccine. How would they know they weren’t double dosing?

There are two bills that would allow vaccination without parental knowledge or consent on the table. You are right, how would they know if they were double dosing? It's terrifying. But yes, it can (and did) happen. A school nurse gave a child Gardasil in the Bronx a few months back, and this isn't even a law yet. But surely it will be if people don't contact their local legislators. Here are links to the bills. https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2019/s3899
https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2019/s4244

My friend is a school nurse, they have the vaccines in the nurses office. They are supposed to contact the parents prior to administering any vaccine but look at what happened in the bronx. I always add in red ink on those emergency contact cards to basically not to any test or procedure with out first getting approval from me or my husband.

Is it just HPV the school nurse has or all vaccines? I'm surprised schools would stock any. I don't think vaccines are cheap, they probably expire, and I'd never heard of anyone getting vaccines at school.

I was surprised too. I'm not sure what they stock or how frequently they are administered. I asked her after the story about the child in the bronx that had the HPV without consent.

It's heading in the direction of school nurses having vaccines in their office. Especially once these bills pass. Then they can pretty much do whatever they want, regardless of what the parents want. First they took away all exemptions that aren't medical (which is basically impossible to get), then allow them to be given without parental knowledge or consent. Then your school nurse will administer them. After that, they will be mandated for adults to get all the shots they never had, and regular boosters. Little by little they are laying the groundwork for this.

I know that it seems insane!

Bc the HPV isn’t mandatory how would the nurse know if they’ve received it or not? What if a child didn’t want their parents to know. Then the parent got it for them and they received it twice?

There is NO place for them at school. It’s a medical procedure. When the flu shot comes to my work and people get it in the conference room I think it’s effing disgusting!

Why is it disgusting to get a flu shot at your place of employment? It’s actually very convenient and very clean if you believe in the shot or have very severe medical conditions like I do that may kill you if you get the flu.

At this point in time I don’t believe in this mandated hpv vaccine, but your stance and arguments on any vaccines really has me scratching my head. Even your timeline on the vaccines seem to be off.

Yes it is my opinion it is disgusting to give a flu shot or ANY medical procedure at my place of employment. Work isn’t the time for medical procedures. I have no problem when the blood donation bus comes and sits outside. Not in the conference room.

If you personally feel you need the flu shot. Then get it.

How is my timeline off? I don’t need my 9 year old EVER getting a vaccination, medical procedure, stitches, Benadryl WITHOUT my knowledge or consent.

I didn’t understand it you mean physically disgusting or you were disgusted at the procedure. If people get it and like having that option available to then why would it be disgusting. I can see being disgusted if they were forcing employees to get the shot. I’m not disgusted by people who don’t get it.

I do get the flu shot and don’t care what other think. Everyone has their own opinions, no one has to agree with me and my decision.

As for timeline, I was referring to your comment of being aware of the hpv vaccine when it First came out. We are all adults, so it was an odd statement since it hasn’t been around that long. It has nothing to do with your child and medical procedures.

Sorry yes I think it’s physically disgusting to be offering flu shots in my conference room. That goes for all medical procedures - shots, giving blood, a dental exam, urine tests, colonics, stress tests - whatever. It’s a place of employment and NOT a doctors office. I think it’s disruptive but also gross.

Please....dont go there with your "lazy parents" comment, if you dont know their situation.

There are a lot of parents that will not vaccinate because of false studies. In extraneous situations, then I understand. I’m sure that there is something in this bill that covers that. But too many people were using the religious exemption as an excuse and it has caused problems. I mean look at how measles has made a comeback. So yes, I view those that go off of false studies lazy.

You mean your office doesn't offer pap smears in the employee cafeteria?

Give me a break - comparing dental, colonics, Pap smears to Flu shot is so ridiculous.Chat Icon

Geez we get it you're anti western medicine and vaccines, doesn't mean people who get it are disgusting. I am not disgusted by people who are so anti-vax and spew out government conspiracy theories that are so ridiculous.

I was joking.

Relax. I was joking too. Where did I say I was anti western medicine or anti vaccinations? Where did I spew out government conspiracies?

I think it’s effing gross to be needling people up in my conference room. That’s my opinion.

I also do not think school nurses should be administering anything to my child without my consent.

I also don’t get the flu shot and never will! That’s my choice. If you live the flu shot and it works for you great! Just don’t get it in my conference room before I have a meeting! ( that parts a joke, but not really)

Either you are joking or you aren't. own it. And you have many posts where you say some extreme things on this topic. I got it from history of your posts.

I don't care that yon don't get the flu shot. I don't care if you have an opinion of me if I get the flu shot.

I also don't think nurses should be giving kids medicine or any shots without a parents consent. Not sure why you keep posting that to me, as I NEVER disputed that at all. I also said in page 1 of this thread that this HPV vaccine shouldn't be mandated.

Also you make it seem like getting a flu shot is like people are laying on the table getting a rectal exam. No one is ruining your conference room which Im sure isnt even yours to claim to begin with. Chill the eff out. Sheesh.

Re: Did you know there are bills In the works to mandate the HPV vaccine?

Let me start off by saying: I'm not a parent so I don't know if anyone care what I think, but I don't agree with mandating the HPV vaccines. It should be a parents choice, because unlike something like measles or chickenpox, it is spread through sexual contact which is a choice.

However, if you think that government isn't already mandating how you parent your child, you're wrong. Strapping your child in a car seat, putting a helmet on when they get on a bicycle … all mandated by the government. I'm not saying they're wrong in mandating it, but they are all laws passed in the interest of safety. Just sayin'.

I think the problem is her (the poster the comment was directed at) condescension toward parents....acting like any parent who isn't happy to give away their CHOICE is "lazy" or just plain stupid. If she's not going to at least try to empathize with the other side of the argument she shouldn't bother opening her mouth. She did more harm than good IMO.

I have always chosen to vaccinate my kids. On schedule. I don't love it, but I do it and I thank God that my children have not had any significant reactions. I also understand that the VAST majority of parents who refuse to vaccinate do so out of genuine fear and worry. They have a precious little person in their care and they're scared. I'm not going to try and tell a parent who watched their baby stop breathing, or have a seizure, or become completely lethargic for days after a vaccine that they should just read some more studies and suck it up. Speaking to them as if they are complete morons is a waste of time.

I quoted the statement that clearly says
"I really feel people who don't have children should refrain from making comments on topics that don't pertain to them"
Maybe she was referring to the specific comments from that one particular poster, but it wasn't written in that way.

Edited to add: Maybe this belongs on the parenting board if those who aren't parents should refrain from commenting

Fair enough.

I probably should have quoted someone else. I butted in to express why I felt that particular non-parent has no place in this discussion.

Why are school nurses allowed to vaccinate and why do they have gardisil if it’s not currently one of the required ones?

I agree. I did not write it in a way to say that parents are stupid for it. I just see many times that parents use the exclusions to their advantage, and it is hurting society, children or not. Most of the time those that do not vaccinate find a way to make it fit into their rhetoric. Oh, I’ll just use the religious example, or I’ll say my child might have a severe reaction, or whatever. To me that is lazy. Perhaps, lazy is a poor choice of words, but you get the gist. I never said stupid.

And if you don’t want non-parents commenting, then put this on another board. As a member of a society, I have every right to comment on this topic because it can affect my family and friends in some way.

So right now there are no vaccines mandatory to attend school I'm Germany? Your post is a bit confusing.

What is so confusing? Vaccinations aren’t mandatory now, but there is bill trying to go through parliament to make vaccinations mandatory. If it goes through, then parents cannot put their children in Kita (preschool ages 2-3 and you have to register them for it when they are born) or Kindergarten (ages 3-7). Kindergarten is a few years here. Most people get their kids vaccinated, especially with the measles outbreak happening now. You can google and look up the school system here.

Homeschooling is illegal.
