Re: Did you know there are bills In the works to mandate the HPV vaccine?
Posted by BriBri2u I really feel people who don't have children should refrain from making comments on topics that don't pertain to them. It's similar to the whole abortion debate IMO. A man's opinion on something he will never have to deal or go through with is pointless and not warranted.
I don't have kids but I have plenty of kids in my life that I love. I'm capable of doing my own research on any topic of interest or concern. I don't think schools should medically be doing anything a parent does not give consent for. I think it's a shame to disregard someone's opinion just because they don't fit a certain criteria.

I am as pro-vax as one can get but I am totally against mandatory vaccination here. I support mandatory vaccines for school settings as infectious disease can be spread while students are in close proximity in the classroom. HPV should not ever be transmitted in the school setting. Children should not even be at risk other than by behavior by their own choice, outside the school setting. Making this vaccine mandatory is asinine.
For the record, I will be vaccinating my children with the HPV by choice.
Isn’t that great you have the CHOICE? I believe in the right to choose what is right for your child.
My husband was vaccine injured as a child. Multiple issues he carries with him through today. It is clear as day in his file that it was a direct result of a specific injection.
HPV aid a personal choice and should never be mandated. Same as the flu. I will never agree to a flu shot personally.
Oh, please with the choice and parenting. You have to draw the line with choice and how it affects other members of society.
So you want to let your child walk around with knives or guns because it’s your choice? You want to homeschool, which is illegal where I live, and send them out into society with not enough knowledge? You want to get rid of a vaccine against something that can cause cancer? Go ahead. Thank God I don’t live by you because all you wanted was a parental choice with no regards to the rest of society.
I believe in having a choice for your own body, but I also believe that you have to think about the rest of the population in that choice.
Not lighting my child on fire to keep you warm!
I didn’t say I want to get rid of a vaccine. I didn’t say I wanted my children to walk around with guns and knives. I didn’t say I wanted to homeschool which btw is LEGAL in america. And actually I support someone who does WANT to. I do not want to, but if it’s your choice go ahead. Stop putting words in my mouth.
Not putting words in your mouth. I’m simply comparing it to where the choice should be drawn. Again your somewhat selfish attitude seems to show through because all you can think about is YOUR child. There are other people in this world. There are too many in fact.
Homeschooling is illegal where I live, for good reason. How can a parent simply teach the curriculum if they aren’t certified teachers? This goes against your scoliosis argument with regards to gym teachers.
I hated the scoliosis checkups, but they found out that I did have scoliosis and my parents got me real quick for treatment and checkups. I was on the border of getting a brace. I’m sure gym teachers have some credentials for checking bones and the spine. It isn’t like some parent saying I can teach my kid 1st-12th grade.
I'm curious to learn where homeschooling is illegal? If you're in another country is it possible that the children in your country have less vaccines that are mandated to attend school?
It is illegal in Germany. You can only do it in very special circumstances. As for vaccinations, it isn’t mandatory, but there is something trying to be passed that would make it mandatory. If you don’t, then your child cannot attend Kindergarten and Kita, which is pre-school (ages 3-6), and you will receive a fine of about $3,000. I hope it goes through. Since you have a choice for your health care (public and private— I have public), and you have to pay for it, I really don’t want to pay more since lazy parents will not vaccinate their kids. It affects society as a whole.
So right now there are no vaccines mandatory to attend school I'm Germany? Your post is a bit confusing.
What is so confusing? Vaccinations aren’t mandatory now, but there is bill trying to go through parliament to make vaccinations mandatory. If it goes through, then parents cannot put their children in Kita (preschool ages 2-3 and you have to register them for it when they are born) or Kindergarten (ages 3-7). Kindergarten is a few years here. Most people get their kids vaccinated, especially with the measles outbreak happening now. You can google and look up the school system here.
Homeschooling is illegal.
Why do you have to be so snarky? The way your paragraph was worded made it sound like parents can be fined now.
If you are sooo passionate about this topic, maybe your energy could be put to better use in your own country where kids currently don't have ANY mandated vaccines.
Or are you just one of those all talk no action sit behind a computer and run my mouth kind of people?

Your last comment was pretty snarky. You have no idea about how I can do action here. In fact, I asked for a petition to vote for a mandatory bill a few pages ago. In the country I live in (it’s not my country), I cannot vote because I am not a citizen. So I’ll take action in the US where my voice can be heard.

If you want to get technical, I believe it’s only illegal for German citizens to homeschool. I follow the community pretty closely, because I’ve toyed with the idea of homeschooling my own kids.
Ironically, as a teacher (like yourself), I feel that the US public school system is severely lacking in many regards. This would be supported that on a global scale, the US schools are just not very competitive. I also feel the priorities of the schools are all backwards.

Did you know there are bills In the works to mandate the HPV vaccine?
I’m glad these boards are starting to see why these vaccine issues are a problem! I’m really glad! Slowly but it’s happening. Something that some ppl are missing though is that if the HPV bill passes, u -as a parent- won’t have any say. That’s why the elimination of the religious exemption was SO important. We were persuaded into thinking it was all about religious exemptions but the picture was much bigger! If u don’t vaccinate, ur kids can’t go to school, period! They don’t care if u don’t vaccinate for X reason, if u choose to space out vaccines, if u give 1 vaccine at a time, if u choose some vaccines but not others. They do not care. This is how they got us but most of us missed the real agenda. Now that bill is law. Now, the only things we can do is to 1) have conversations with ppl about vaccines, interestingly enough a lot of ppl don’t know why we don’t vaccinate because of our religious beliefs and how those beliefs go together with science, and 2) pray as hard as we can that the lawsuits in place can be successful!
Also I don’t understand why some ppl don’t believe in homeschooling, I mean I get it if u think u can’t do it but to think it has no value?? That couldn’t be further than the truth! I know many families who never thought they’d be able to do it and ended up loving it, including their kids! Going to college was a goal they achieved! In fact, many colleges love homeschoolers because of their independent learning styles! So to say homeschooling is not good, it’s simply ignorant.

I didn’t misuse them. You seem to think I did because I didn’t say it polite enough for you or something. I don’t really know what your issue is and I don’t really care at this point.
As for mandated vaccines in Germany, they are not here. As I said earlier in the thread, it is currently going through parliament right now. If it passes, then it will take effect in 2020.

What you’ve said is very important.
To all parents who do NOT want to give a mandatory HPV shot WHEN the government tells you you have to fight now! HPV is approved for age 7-45 years old now!
Do you NOT want to give a yearly flu shot to your child? What if you do and you give it and your child gets ill? Guess what? Next year you HAVE to give again!
I want to give neither of the two, a lot of other parents feel the same. But now our choice is being taken away. There are 200 new vaccinations being worked on. What if they’re mandated too? Your choice is gone.

Re: Did you know there are bills In the works to mandate the HPV vaccine?
I don't love when people say that it's "selfish" to not inject your children with poison so as to "maybe" save the rest of society. No. I don't agree to sacrifice my child for another person's child. Sorry, but no. And also, it's silly to think that unvaccinated children are walking around will all these active diseases just waiting to infect everyone in their path. It just isn't the case.
There is no reason to mandate the HPV vaccine other than money. People are making money - whether it be doctors or the pharma companies or whoever. This is not an altruistic venture. If the HPV vaccine was SO safe and SO effective and SO great then everyone would want it and you wouldn't have to mandate it.
Also, like it or not, there ARE risks associated with vaccines. Maybe those risks are small. However the risk of getting HPV and dying from it is also small. You MAY get HPV and it MAY not resolve on its own and you MAY not be able to treat it and it MAY lead to cancer....and by the way the vaccine doesn't even protect against all strains!
This is a slippery slope and people don't realize it. Start taking away people's rights little by little and before you know it you have nothing left. I for one do not want the government to control everything and everyone.

Did you know there are bills In the works to mandate the HPV vaccine?
Wow, every time a vaccine thread pops up, it's a hot-button topic (rightfully so). Isn't the HPV vaccine's purpose to prevent Uterine Cancer? I am not a researcher staring into a microscope all day, and I rely on the experts to tell me what's right. With fingers crossed, I hope they're correct.

It is to prevent cervical cancer and also throat cancer.
To another poster (Chili), saying a vaccine is “poison” is not correct. You really took it to another level there with that over exaggerated description.

My comment didn't come out the way I intended it to. I apologize.
Yes, people who don't have children can obviously have an opinion on the topic at hand. However, I feel like they can't say what they would do if they had children when they don't. There is a different mind set you enter once you have a child.
Everything you THOUGHT you would do when or if you had a child goes out the window and you start to make decisions differently - I am referring to these types of decisions, that result in tragic outcomes. You take every scenario and run it through your head over and over again, you triple think your final decisions, and then triple think them again.
My kids follow the vaccine schedule. I believe in vaccines. I don't believe in this one. There is not enough science to back the long terms affects up on this one. We are now just starting to see what they are from the first round of kids who received them. I work in the research world, there are Principal Investigators who don't like the HPV vaccine.
Big Pharma will line the pockets of whoever is willing to accept their money in order to push one of their drugs. It puts big money back into their own pockets.

Re: Did you know there are bills In the works to mandate the HPV vaccine?
Two thoughts after reading all this...
1. I think people on this board, maybe LI in general, don't see the bigger picture that there ARE kids whose parents do not take them for appropriate medical care and that sometimes it COULD fall on the school to intervene.
2. Is part of the reason people have an issue with the HPV vaccine is that it prevents an STD?
My son is going to get the HPV vaccine. His ped and I discussed it at his 12 year well visit and she says she doesn't give it until 14 unless the parent knows/suspects the child has had sex beforehand.

You read my mind but didn't feel like coming back and posting on this thread. Totally agree there are a lot of children who don't get proper healthcare, medical attention and food. As bad as it is to admit this there were times where I went to the dentist or got a physical because they sent a note home to my mom forcing her. So I can see why they have nurses and vaccines at some schools. I do agree you should get parents consent but I am sure there are alot of parents who would welcome this care for their kids if they are struggling.
Secondly, did the doctor say that he would have to get 3 doses instead of two if he started at 14? I want to get my son the vaccine but rather wait till he is older around that age.

Yea I think the 2 shot vs 3 shot thing was brought up but ultimately she said she prefers to wait until that age unless needed.
ETA: I feel it is fear mongering to act like kids will be lined up and inoculated without their parents ever knowing. I know with my son I got 3 letters home last year because he needed a tetanus shot and what was holding us up was that my ped couldn't see him until the beginning of October. I got a letter saying ok, but if he didn't have it right after the appointment out of school he went. So I find it hard to believe that one day they'd just line everyone up and give them 400 shots like something out of Brave New World.

I agree & LOL @ Brave New World comment.
Thank you for sharing the info. I have to talk to my sons pediatrician but wanted to get some honest feedback from a parent. I didn't want to give it to him this year since my son has to get his other two vaccines plus the flu shot. I rather wait till he is older, like 13-14 range.
