Dealing with Managers who Micromanage. ***update***
How the hell do you deal with it. We deal with a fairly large client with a lot of deliverables and deadlines so I get that managers want to stay on top of things. We email to our entire team any updates so we all stay in the loop as well as have a daily status call.
Client sends an email and I shit you not that 3 diff managers on the team email the group about the latest deliverable schedule in a 15 min span right AFTER the client emailed the entire team.
We are all adults, we all know the procedure, we know it will be discussed tomorrow morning. Wtf is the reason behind 3 diff people emailing advising us of the same thing.
This isnt the first time this has happened.
****update****
They did it again. Client emails in a request, I get an IM a minute later asking if I got the email. A minute after that I get a phone call from another manager asking if I have seen the email. The kicker.....they are sitting right next to each other.

Dealing with Managers who Micromanage
If my boss isn’t micromanaging she isn’t happy and it drives me nuts. I’m hoping she won’t be my boss much longer. She’s a nice person and I think means well, but she’s controlling and it’s her downfall because it prevents growth amongst the team. I do my job, keep my records in order and that’s it. If she has an issue and wants to speak to me, she can. I’m not an insubordinate employee by any means, but I do think she limits my career growth in a sense

Re: Dealing with Managers who Micromanage
They have to prove they are "managing." It is not you. It is them showing to their boss, see I am doing my job. My job is telling you to do your job. Then, if you don't do what you were supposed to do they can say, see right there on this email is where I told you what to do. You did not do that, now we can fire you.

I get it but the higher ups are also on copy. Doesnt it look dumb when all the same people are on all THREE emails about the same schedule. No new info is being provided, just a "hey, client sent over an updated schedule".
To me that just is micromanagement and just highlights that they aren't paying attention to the emails they are getting, which is another whole issue. Dont ask me for an update on something when I emailed you the day before.

Dealing with Managers who Micromanage
If one of my direct reports sent an email like that to their direct reports with a copy to me I’d think they were idiots and I’d probably tell them so.
They only made themselves look bad.

Omg, that is so annoying. I find it insulting too that they dont think anyone knows how to do their job.

You might think it’s stupid and annoying but from a managers POV some people need extra direction. You would think they should just deal with it if it came from the client, but people are lazy, not paying attention, or are just dumb and need the extra push.
Plus if the work doesn’t get done and the manager didn’t say anything then it’s more on the manager.

It’s annoying. My manager says she doesn’t micromanage but she does. And her suggestions aren’t really efficient most of the time.

If employees need that much extra direction I’d question why the manager hired them in the first place.
I also think making your direct employees look incompetent is not a good reflection on the manager. Make them more competent. That’s the manager’s job.
