Popeyes and fighting over chicken sandwiches
Anyone following this?
https://news3lv.com/news/local/popeyes-chicken-sandwich-craze-sweeps-nation-how-valley-area-workers-are-holding-up
Apparently, it is supposed to be really good. I’ve never been to a Popeyes or Chick Fil A (I won’t go there anyway, for reasons we all know of), but I am really curious to try this Popeyes sandwich.
Personally, I think it is a publicity stunt. Now, it’s got lots of people talking about a fast food chain that wasn’t really super popular to begin with. Conveniently, they ran out. When it comes back, then so many people will want to try it.

Popeyes and fighting over chicken sandwiches
Popeyes has a lot of stuff I like (I like the flavor of their breading and their sides) but I'd never stand in a line that long for a fast food restaurant.

Re: Popeyes and fighting over chicken sandwiches
My husband tried it weeks ago before all the hype and said it was really, really good and better then the spicy chicken sandwich at chick-fil-a. That said, he still wouldn't wait on a line for it.

Popeyes and fighting over chicken sandwiches
I had a Popeyes chicken sandwich a few weeks ago before all this hoopla started. Is it the same sandwich? Or did they come out with a new one? The one I had was good, but not “cult following” good. It met my expectations for a fast food chicken sandwich but nothing to go this crazy over lol

Re: Popeyes and fighting over chicken sandwiches
It's a sad state of affairs if people are fighting over a fast food chicken sandwich. And we wonder why we are one of the fattest nations in the world with the highest obesity rates.

so true! I’ve had chick fil a once maybe like 7 years ago driving down to Virginia. I don’t see the appeal in a chicken sandwich! And to be honest I didn’t even know there was a Popeyes on Long Island!! I’ve never seen one?!

I didn’t know there was a Popeyes on LI either. I did a little reading and saw that they tend to put them in areas with certain demographics, as as the Washington Post says “urban.” Since LI is so segragated, maybe that’s why you haven’t seen one?
There is even a thought flying around that this running out of chicken is racist and portrays a bad light to the African American community. Most of the videos are showing them rioting. AAs feel it shows them in a negative light. I only did a brief reading of a few articles, but I think that is the gist of it.

I know there’s one by Roosevelt Field and one by Walt Whitman mall. I’m sure there are others as well.

I actually think I like Popeyes better than KFC. I've heard a little about these sandwiches but there is no food good enough to riot over if you're not starving.

There’s one on old country road. Not an area I would think of as particularly “urban.” But when people on LI hear I’m from queens they think I grew up in a tenement with laundry hanging out the window, so I might have a different understanding of “urban.”

Well Washington Post described “urban” as mixed demographics, or from what I understand from that meaning areas with a higher percentage of minorities. I’m just going by what I read.
It’s described in Part 5:

Popeyes and fighting over chicken sandwiches
Just had that Popeyes sandwich they mention and it was good but Popeyes is far superior than many other fast food chicken places so no surprise there. Wouldn't stand on a tremendous line for it but it was good.
