Visa to India - & I’m Stupid
I did the dumbest move, we were suppose to leave to India yesterday for a wedding and some beachy days. I never researched documentation and didn’t realize we needed visas till we were standing at the airport about to check-in. My face turned white and my poor son who doesn’t get upset easily looked like he was about to cry.
I was able to get visas via urgent request and looks like we will be on the same flight tonight and only miss a day - thank your God. Needless to say the last 16 hours have been stressful.
Please pray for me that tonight is smoother than last night. Moral of the story, Don’t be dumb like me. I’ve travelled overseas a lot and feel like I had that American mentality that since I have a US passport I can just use that to come and go. But I’m sure y’all are smarter than me. Lesson learned the hard way.
Also my friend who is getting married, her aunt died yesterday and her fiancés visa isn’t getting fixed in time so they won’t be able to go to Maldives for their honeymoon. Her wedding will be scaled back because of the death. I felt so bad for her, she text me this right when I was going to text her about what was happening with us. If we can get extra prayers for her and the family!

Re: Visa to India - & I’m Stupid
Ugh, that’s a terrible feeling. But now that you have them, you should be fine. That happened the first time I went to Turkey, however, you’re able to just purchase tourist visas at the airport in Istanbul (that’s how it was 5 years ago, may have changed). But they didn’t say anything when we left JFK! The worst was I had accidentally overstayed my visa to Turkey & then tried to go back a month later (it’s a long story but they are constantly changing the laws)...I flew all the way to Istanbul only to be turned away & back on a plane to NY 20 minutes later!! 20 hours of flying to just end up back home!! Nightmare!! So, you’re not alone lol

Wow that’s crazy! I used to travel a lot for work as well, and I think what made it worse was my DH and sons face looking at me since I’m the go to person for travel. I usually buy it at the countries too. Although US is ranked 22 in strongest passports, more countries are starting to implement the filing of visas for US. I will research research & research from now on. Lol
The United Airlines reps were so horrible as well. 100% knew it was our fault, barely had a chance to process and didn’t say word; but they chastised us right out the gate as we stood there stunned thinking our trip was over. I just walked away from the lady and started googling expedited visas. My husband tried to see what our options were ticket wise from travel assistance and they were rude and not helpful. He walked away and got the tickets fixed over the phone by a nice United rep. Basically we were in the airport on the phone and computer fixing it, while people were standing around. Then people wonder why kiosk and outsourcing are taking their jobs.

Thank you!
We are going to Goa and Indore, heard it’s beautiful. I will post pics and review. Can’t wait to wear my Indian dresses during the wedding. Which was another sh!t show in itself, because I found out I had to get 4 dresses last week.
ETA: my friend texted me and she said her family is in better spirits. I’m not sure the circumstances around her aunts death, if she was older and sick or if it was unexpected. She also said she feels better and is just happy to be with her family and also was happy to find out we will make it to the wedding!

Glad you made it, sounds like it will be amazing!
And yes, people have no clue...they end up googling the answer & it’s like, what are you getting paid for, I can do that! But it’s ridiculous how people can work for an international airline & not know the rules at all! Plus, in this day & age I’m surprised they don’t send an automated email after booking tickets to a foreign country giving info about visas!
