London - how much time?
My SD is studying in London next semester and we want to visit her. Can London be done for a long weekend? Or do we really need longer than that for the time adjustment?

I did 3 nights, 4 days & saw a lot! I stayed right down the street from Big Ben, so it was easy to get to a lot from that location. Also, the red double decker bus tours are a great way to get to & see a lot.

Were you totally jet lagged when you came home? I want to do a quick trip, like a long weekend but didn't know if it's unrealistic to think if I'm coming home Sunday that I can be back to work on Monday.

I did it in 4 days and saw everything I wanted to see. I flew home on a Tuesday and was at my desk Wednesday - was tired but made it through the day.

I just went on a Thursday (Wednesday overnight) and came back on Sunday. it was totally fine. I actually stayed in Oxford and just visited London.
wanted to add that my flight landed at JFK on a sunday at 5pm. I was home by 6:30 and I was at work by 8am the next day

Anything can be fine all depending on wht you want to do.
Can you see NYC in a long weekend? For some the answer is yes, for some the answer is no, you need 2 weeks.
Personally, if I'm going to invst my time and money in an international flight 6-1200 round trip and 7+ hour commitments on each end, I'd want to go for longer.
we did a week in London. did a day trip to paris, we were not rushed, but we did spend time all over. We felt pretty zonked out the first day.
did all sorts fo fun things, different shows at night, jack the ripper walking tour, Westminster, the eye, Windsor, st pauls, changing of the guard, walking the waterfront, seeing the museums. we went over new years and saw the fireworks on the thames too.

No, coming back this way is much easier to adjust. I do remember being tired the first night I was there. I just went to bed early the first night & was refreshed by morning.

Like a PP said going back to the US is much easier. Usually when I go back, I just stay awake and go to sleep at a normal time. I do tend to wake up really early, though.
Going there you will feel it more. The flights into London from NY tend to land early in the morning, so you will feel tired at some point (you don’t want to take a nap in the middle of the day because your whole sleep schedule will be off).
I’ve done weekend trips to London from the US, but that was after my first visit which was 2 weeks.
What do you want to see?

I personally would not do London on a long weekend. You will fly in one morning and likely be exhausted unless you're a really good plane sleeper. It takes a while to adjust to the jet lag and there is TONS to do in London. One of my favorite cities. I'd do a minimum of 5 days, but preferably a week, if you can swing it.
