Flu in 3 days?
My 8 yr old son came home Monday feeling sick with a fever. Had a bad night that night not feeling well and Tuesday morning at hte doctor's he tested postive for Flu B. Was on Motrin all day Tuesday every 6 hours and taking elederberry plus lots of liquids. Last night he slept great and woke up with 100 fever and now he has no fever and never came back. Doing his homework now he missed and just has a stuffy nose and little cough. I have him just on cough meds, elderberry and having him drink and eat (but mostly drink).
How is it that he seems almost fine today. If he stay like this and gets better I'll send him in Friday. Just seems short to me. He did get his flu shot Columbus Day, but that was a week and a half ago and they said the flu vaccine takes effect after two weeks. Thoughts? I plan on sending him back to school Friday if he never gets a fever again (fingers crossed), but I know whenever someone hears "flu" they think at least 4 - 5 days out sick.

Re: Flu in 3 days?
Could have gotten a mild strain and/or the elderberry could have kicked it out sooner.

Re: Flu in 3 days?
My DC got the flu when they were 3 and they bounced back in about 3 days. Sometimes their immune systems handle things better.
And I know it was the flu because I got it a day later and I was out for a solid week in bed and it took a month to feel like myself again.
So yes I think it's possible.

Re: Flu in 3 days?
Probably because of the flu shot! I've had the flu once with the shot and once without and it was like night and day! I was over it in 4 days and it was fairly mild compared to the 2 week misery of the flu with no shot. Hope he really is over it!

I was going to suggest this.
Also OP, I wouldn't send him back to school till Monday. He may be feeling well but can still be contagious and risk getting other kids sick.

Thanks! I think I will give it a couple of more days, but glad he is doing better.

It's awesome he is feeling better and recovered quickly. Watching them with the flu is the worse. There is only so much you can do to make them feel better.

I know! Monday and Tuesday were awful! I felt terrible he was so achy and couldn't talk. Last night I was up all night and kept checking in on him since the night before he was miserable, but he was fine. Lots of fluids, rest, elderberry and washing the house and bedding, towels, etc like crazy now.
