how to buy art
I'd like buy someone artwork by an artist, Yves Tanguy, but I have NO idea how to make sure that it's real or a fake. I also can't really afford much so I'm assuming I'll have to make do with a reproduction after I've exhausted all my searches. :) Anyone know where I should look for the real thing (and if it's too pricey, a reproduction)?

I thought you meant artwork like a framed/signed picture

There are a few ways. You can attend an auction or contact a gallery. There is a website called artnet.com That is a legit website with proper research and you can see what the going rate is for an original and a copy.

I almost bought something off Ebay b/c I thought it was a good deal and I asked an interior design friend and she said that she couldn't see the quality well enough to determine if it's a good price.
I think I might just give up and think of something else to get so I don't get taken (and since I know that art is probably out of my price range).

When we bought Art on the cruise ship they told us we could go on the artist website and verify authenticity.

there are so many lawsuits about cruise ship art. If you enjoy it, that is what matters, but it is not an investment.
