England/London theme gift ideas?

My SD is studying abroad next semester so for Christmas I was thinking of getting her mostly money but a few things she could take with her. Any ideas? I figured tourist book and an umbrella.

How do Hunter boots run? I was actually thinking of those but she's on the larger side so I didn't know if fitting them around her calf would be a problem.

A tea set, or tea kettle... high tea is huge there, any new friends might want to come over for tea, etc.

also maybe school supplies that are england/london themed

Local Currency and Euros as I'm sure she will travel to the continent during her trip.

I studied abroad and had 2 suitcases for 6 months worth of clothes, stuff, etc. I would just caution that her space will be very limited and she won't want to pack things that could be easily purchased there.

Does she have a good carry on luggage or smaller suitcase to take with her on smaller trips? In Europe, she will likely go on several long weekends to see other countries. They have bags that also fold up so it could be packed in a larger bag and used as a weekender once there. Note that Europe uses the metric system to measure carry on luggage (we had a problem in Germany).

A decent travel pillow could also come in handy as she may take long train rides around Europe.

Getting her wellies for London isn’t the best idea. They use them more for the country side. It really isn’t THAT rainy in London.

A good small backpack or carry on for small trips is a good idea. I’m not sure how a PP’s comment about the metric system comes into this. I’m still scratching my head at this comment. . Just get a regular carry on. It isn’t like the metric system makes carry on sizes different. You just convert. I believe 7 kgs is the weight of the carry on. If you can’t convert to the metric system, then you have other problems. The metric system is used almost everywhere except the US and Myanmar. The UK uses the metric system mostly, but they understand the imperial system. Get with the program.

I think a great idea would be to get a Euro pass train ticket or a Britrail train ticket. If she is planning on traveling around, those can be very helpful. A Chunnel ticket would be a good gift idea.

Local currency is a good idea, but she will get a much better rate if she takes it out from her ATM in London.

GCs to certain things would be awesome. She may want American food sometimes. A GC for high tea would be great. Sorry, but a tea set is not the best idea. What is she going to do? Carry that over? LOL for days.

Indian food is great. A GC for Dishoom restaurant would be great. Pret a manger, Eat, Wagamama are all great places for typical food. Museum passes is a good idea. A tube pass is a good idea. Just plain money is a great idea. Get her adaptors— one for the UK and one for Europe. Italy uses a slightly different adaptor, so see if you can pick up one of those (European adaptors will work, but you kind of have to force them in).

The metic system comment is related to the size of a “standard” carryon purchased in the US is in inches and the requirements for intl are in metric. Basically standard US bags are a little too big. Yes, you can convert but wanted to just flag it as standard isn’t the same globally.

In Germany they measured the length of my carryon and wouldn’t let me carryon to France due to the wheels making it too long. I had that bag for years on many flights with no issues. Maybe not all airlines/countries are strict but if you pay attention to the size, it’s easy enough to avoid the problem.

Getting yelled at in German when I don’t speak the language was unpleasant and avoidable if I had taken a min to think it through.
