adopting a family for Christmas - questions
I adopted a pretty large family for the holidays. I have a few questions about sizing and brands.
I do most of my shopping at Target. Would a pair of sketchers sneakers ($30) for a 9 yr old boy be lame? All the kids need some sort of clothing, almost all of them need sneakers, jackets, hats and gloves. I know more expensive sneakers would be nicer (Under Armour or Nike) but I wanted to be able to do a decent amount of toys and some grocery gift cards too. Buying brand names for every kid would be very expensive. I just wanted to be able to give back since we're in the position to this year. I mean if I have to buy the brand names, I will. I don't want to disappoint anyone. I was just wondering if sketchers are ok.
Sizing question.
I was told "Shirts - Boys size 10" but the sizing is only S,M,L,XL and the Medium is size 8-10. That's the size I should buy right? IDK why I''m thinking since they asked for a 10, what I buy might end up too small since it fits size 8's too.

Re: adopting a family for Christmas - questions
I don't think skechers would be bad, I might see if I could get some really good black friday/cyber monday deals on a name brand- Nike or Adidas, but I don't think you have to. I might even do a converse sneaker instead of skechers. But get what you can, I'm sure anything is appreciated. As for shirts, I'd always go bigger and get the medium.
ETA: This is a wonderful thing you're doing!
ETAA: Duh, read this wrong. Go for a larger size- get the large.

I would get the Large. Even if it's a little big, he could still wear it.

The reebok outlet in deer park usually has come good prices either if you don't want sketchers. My 9yo doesn't care about brands at all
I would go with large to be safe - to big can grow into and to small would be a waste.

You can check on sneaker store websites & search by price. I usually look on finishline.com & final-score.com. They have a lot under $50

Re: adopting a family for Christmas - questions
Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm going to wait until BF and see if I can get some better deals on some brand name stuff. If not, I'll check the outlets.
I was thinking, what if he's like a size 8 and they said 10 so he can grow into it? If I go larger, then it will be huge. Maybe I'll just get some of both. So he can wear the mediums now and grow into the larges. I wish I could ask the people who are running it a ton of questions, but they seem to have a lot on their plates.

My dd is 10, and she and nearly all of her friends wear a large. I think a 9 year old would also wear a large too.

That is very helpful, I'm just going to go with the large and stop second guessing it. Thanks for your input! Do you know what boys that age are into? Like for shirts, what kind would be "cool" lmao I feel ancient trying to pick out stuff that's "in".

My son is 9 and average weight. He's wearing a 10/12 in shirts or a Large.
He likes Pokemon, Mario Bros., sports teams, sharks, holiday themed shirts, and color block shirts (like the body is blue, sleeves are black type of thing.)

Re: adopting a family for Christmas - questions
We adopt a family each year as well.
Start following Hip2save.com They have great deals! I think skechers are fine but i have also found underarmour and nike sneakers at the Riverhead outlets for $30. If you can make a trip there. Otherwise check that site i mentioned a few times a day. Sneaker deals come up all the time.
For size 10, i'd do the large.

I don't have anything different to add then was what was mentioned but I just wanted to say how nice it is of you to be so generous to this family. I am sure they will really appreciate it!

Wow, you are awesome. This is so nice of you. I just wanted to add that in addition to the outlets as someone had mention, check Kohl's on BF. They sometimes have really great deals on UA and Nike that could fit your budget. Also, if you wanted the UA clothes, I always find stuff for my son in Marshall's and TJ Maxx. Also, Bob's has some good deals on that stuff as well.

Re: adopting a family for Christmas - questions
For shirts I would do a large. Sweatshirts I would go XL (especially if it’s a brand like Under Armour).
I usually pay $35 for my sons Under Armour sneakers either from Dicks or the online outlet. I’d do that as opposed to the Skechers.

I would def check the outlets for sneakers. DD is 9.5 and is picky about sneakers- she really only likes Nike- I find some great ones at the outlet in the sale/clearance section- last Black Friday- i got one pair for $23 and one for $17!
