Fire HD 8
Would you recommend the fire HD8 for kids? Are you able to download apps to it like an iPad? If not, is there a better option for kids that you can download apps to?

We always got DD the Samsung tablets- they are affordable and you can download a ton of apps.

I have no idea which fire my kids have but Amazon has freetime and freetime unlimited. The first is free and you have to download apps for them as far as I know. If you pay a few dollars a month for freetime unlimited they can download everything themselves within whatever age limits you set up.

We have a 2 year old fire 7 and the kids like playing the games. We have been payign for the Free time for the past year. I honestly don't know if the apps we are using require it.
For my 3 year old we or Santa are getting him a Fire 8 this year so he can have his own device. The kids seem to like it.
We also have MY IPAD that they use sometimes, and sometimes they let me use it too.

I definitely recommend it for kids. There is an app store, but you can also download google play to get some other apps that amazon does not have. You can also get a micro sd card and store movies (and more apps) on there so the kids have something to do if they are not in wifi. Space on the actual tablet is limited so you cant really save movies on there for them to watch.
