Edible Gifts

I really hate giving people gift cards for Christmas. I know it's better than giving them something they won't like or use, but damn it feels like I'm cheating... and then it's made worse because I get you a $50 gift card and you get me a $50 gift card... why?! Ugh, it's just dumb!

But I've had a hard year and even harder holiday season so I'm all out of steam and there's a few people getting gift cards god dammit. Chat Icon My question is, I would still like to give SOME sort of physical gift... a box of chocolates, a bottle of wine, whatever. One person I'm gifting with a gift card is perpetually on a diet and constantly flip flops back and forth between drinking and not drinking... so I don't know what I can give her? Any ideas for a little inexpensive extra or should I say fork it and not bother?

If you want to get something then I'd just get a small thing of chocolates and call it a day. If she doesn't eat it then she'll give it to someone that will. Its the thought that counts.

True, her boyfriend doesn't care, he'd probably eat them. Chat Icon Every year it's something different.. "I'm not eating gluten!" "I gave up alcohol 2 months ago" "Strictly vegan now" "All keto for 4 weeks!" Chat Icon It's impossible to keep up. Last year she was not drinking and I gave her a bottle of wine and electric wine opener... she made a comment about it. But then in January she's got a picture of her at a bar with a glass of wine so idk man. Chat Icon

Re: Edible Gifts

Just the gift card is fine.
If she's on and off diets, who knows what her latest food no-no will be.
Dh follows a lifestyle where he can't even eat fruit- (that boggles people's minds I know! LOL) so you just never know.

A gift card isn't cheating.
But the $50 for $50 gift card swap sitatuion is the exact reason I have made aggrements with almost all the adults in my life that we just forgo the gifts- because it's an even exchange and just silly.

Right?! It makes no sense. I wish I could just not exchange with them either, but they don't have kids and they always buy gifts for my kids so even if they didn't get me something I'd feel obligated.

Edible Gifts

I would do something with the gc then. A pasmina or scarf, warm fuzzy socks, a throw blanket, a candle. And attach the gc to it.

All good ideas! Thank you, I'm thinking pashmina or candle. I've gotten her one from B&B Works before and she liked it. Thanks, I'm just burnt out on gift giving ideas. Chat Icon

You could do fruit from Harry and David. We've gotten a box of pears as a gift a few times and they all get devoured. I think you can even order their stuff through Amazon.

Me too. Adults love GCs but it’s nice to open a little something as well

Trader Joe’s has awesome holiday gifts that are so inexpensive
Truffles, cookies, popcorn tins
I would go there if you aren’t looking to spend a ton of $
I get my doctors gifts there and they always are happy
