for people that try to stay private, this is causing a spectacle! But good for them. Once the queen goes, they are going to be like the Andrew and Fergie and nobody really knows who they are anyway. Do you think Megan will go back to acting?

Who know what they decided before getting married, maybe Harry didn’t really want the royal life anyways. Outside of that I think its really messed up to the Royal Family if pre-marriage the intention was to continue living as Royal. They have not even been together very long. Maybe she wants to act now, maybe she wants a private life, but that’s not what she signed up for. It’s a total bait and switch. If that’s what they wanted Harry should have bowed out before marrying her so they would have a private wedding and life from the start. I don’t get the buyers remorse and that she didn’t know how bad it would get. Or at least stick it out a little longer and get some advice from his brother and SIL who’ve been gracefully dealing with this for years. Kate was well aware and a target of the media circus for many years before she decided to marry. How insulting to them.

it seems months before this came out they got a patent on a name brand they are a part of so they will be making $$$$ off of the Royal's when they move

Totally kept the announcement "on brand". Announced pregnancy at Eugenie's wedding. Announced this a day before Kate's bday. Everything Megan does is so scripted. There are more examples, but she turns me off so much, nothing they do now do i find sincere.

I don’t blame them for leaving. Prince William throws Harry under the bus to deflect from any gossip thrown around about him (affair anyone?). The spare always gets the short end of the stick. The family never said anything about some racist things that were said about Meghan. Good for Harry.

I actually applaud this decision. His mother was basically murdered by overzealous paparazzi and now his wife is being hounded. Every little thing that she does is disected and scrutinized. Just because he was born a royal doesn't mean that they do not deserve a normal life.

It’s 2020 who really cares what they do. The monarchy means nothing,it’s nothing but a status thing. It’s not like they are going to be less popular. Maybe they can do a reality show, “Forgetting Frogmore!”

They're not leaving the family, they're stepping away from being "senior" members of the family, there's a big difference. Prince Charles has long said he'd like to reduce the amount of seniors - members of the family who are paid to primarily just undertake official visits, trips, etc.

I think they went about this completely wrong and the timing is hugely suspect, but scaling back was always expected when Charles became King.

ETA - I don't think either of the brothers looks good in this scenario.

at first, i was on board. i understood why he would want to step away because of his mother. he's now sixth in line to the throne (until William's kids have kids) so not really needed. it seemed he always wanted a more normal life (like when he wanted to be in the army and had to leave because he was putting his own troops in danger).

Then i started reading how the whole thing was handled and it's like a toddler tantrum. not letting the queen know at all? letting your father know ten minutes before it happened? working on it for months in secret? ruining kate's birthday? forget about the public or the title, how about just having some respect for your family?

we'll see how this plays out.

I don’t get what the big deal is in the long run who cares. He will never be king. Didn’t he say he wants to earn his own money. So why is everyone all up in arms about this?!

Just looking at the above link, I hope the people who say they don’t like her look and see how the media portrays her unfairly. I personally think it’s because she is an American of African descent. I don’t blame her for wanting to get away.

I think it's more about the way they went about making the announcement than them actually wanting to take a step back.

They made a very big decision publicly without telling their family first. It is rude and I think that's the greatest backlash.
