HELP- I ruined my area rug- I think
So i found a stain (dried coffee I think) on my light grey area rug and in my panic and haste i tried cleaning it by scrubbing it with diluted dish soap rather than blotting the stain with a proper cleaner. So now i have this large round ring on the carpet that is almost white and worse still the pile is all matted- so there is a big white round blotch in the middle of my carpet.. Good times! =)
Does anyone have any ideas how i can fix this or is it a lost cause??

I recently cleaned a wool rug with diluted hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle. Worked really well. Google it.

Could the white area be extra soap (suds)? I think I would work that ring otwards with a clean wet rag (white tee shirt) Also perhaps after it dries thoroughly a good vacuuming with a shop vac (powerful vac) will help with the matting

Thank you! I think it might be the soap suds! but im afraid it will get worse if i spread it out more.. I should try the shop vac though--thanks!

I agree with this. If you used regular dishwashing soap, there shouldn’t be anything in there that bleached it. It’s probably dried soap
