CSE meeting time!
Just checking in and seeing how everyone's IEP meetings are going.
We had ours yesterday and it ended up being almost and hour and half! We went back and forth with them on certain things like 'tests read' and how to handle reading comprehension test.
in the end we got my current 2nd grader - 3rd grade next year:
Speech 2x individual OT 1x small group Specialized (Wilson) reading 5x for 45mins a day Individual therapy 1x (for anxiety)

Re: CSE meeting time!
My son is in middle school and his IEP meeting is in a couple of weeks. He likes his current schedule, but I know that there are a lot of electives he can choose from for next year. I am thinking of letting him drop Spanish for eighth grade and letting him have more electives like robotics because that is really where his interest and skill set lay.

Does his school allow students to drop language? My daughter is young but I already know that will be an issue for her!

Re: CSE meeting time!
My son's meeting is next month. Last year we got a new director of CSE and she has been good (let's hope it continues to stay that way)

CSE meeting time!
We had our meeting in November. We are at a new school and they gave us more services. DD is in 4th grade and in an ICT class (NYC schools). She gets to work with SPED teacher in small groups any time she feels she needs to. She gets pull out 4X a week for reading (OG based), she also gets tests read to her. Tests are untimed and she can have breaks. She can also choose to have a scribe if she wants (we are opting out of NYS tests, so she won't be using this for regular tests). Spelling tests are taken & marked, but not counted. She was also approved for the use of an Ipad, so she can do speech to text & it can read things for her. She has dyslexia & dysgraphia. Overall, I was really happy with the meeting and the services the school provides. We also decided to have her meeting with social worker weekly in small group setting for her anxiety (which is not part of the diagnosis or IEP)- but her teachers are amazing and could tell she struggles with the anxiety, likely in part because of her diagnosis.

Unless they are language exempt, students need a language. Most students fulfill their language requirement in 8th grade but it could be moved to 9th grade.

My daughter is young but I already know that will be an issue for her! in our district, the language requirements are required for the high school level but only one year is required for middle school. Since he took it in both sixth and seventh grades, he should be okay for eighth grade. What they normally tell parents here is for sixth graders to do a study skills class instead of foreign language in sixth, so they then end up getting stuck and needing foreign language in eighth grade. But since he has already done them, I am going to push to see he gets what he wants. So far the district is reasonable, but I know it could change at any time.

In order to graduate with a HS diploma you must take at least 2 years of a foreign language. You can get exempt if you have a language based disability. You also need to look at colleges because most require a language to get accepted so if you do claim exempt, there are many schools that will not accept your application. There is no formal requirement for Jr. High/Middle School. That is district specific.

Re: CSE meeting time!
So ds is going to take Spanish and robotics. They also gave me everything I’ve asked for him, so I am very happy.
