I can't believe anyone gave 7 tests to one family. Test one.
We have doctors and nurses on the front lines who can't gets tests. The idea of wasting SEVEN of them on one family is disgusting. I think one could deduce that if one family member has it and the rest are all sick, they have the same thing. It's not rocket science.
They didn’t all get tested. 1 did and while waiting for results, isolated but it was too late and they all started to feel sick. The kids aren’t as bad as the parents. But none are bad enough to go to the hospital (and I hope it stays that way)
Not once did I say they all went and got tested. But if one person in the house is + and everyone gets sick, you assume that’s what it is because yea... they aren’t going to test 7 people for what is mostly likely the same virus
So only 1 person tested positive or they don’t have results yet?
1 person tested +
Ahhh ok. So they just assume the rest have it. They might just have colds and I would never say I had something without being tested as this is how fear grows.

Lol Every health professional says assume you have it. Because tests aren’t readily available to waste. So it’s assumed they do. 1 does. They have been in the house together for 3 weeks. Could some be allergies? Maybe. when every thing today says to assume you’re + if you have symptoms and Especially if you are in close contact with someone who is +.
Once the antibody test comes out, they’ll know for sure.

Yes but that is how the numbers are so high because we are assuming people have it and are dying from it when most people have underlying conditions they might or might not know they have. I feel bad for anyone who has it as I know so many who most likely had it months ago before testing was around.

I'm pretty sure it's the beginning of this segment that says it's not necessary, but if you want to wipe down your groceries, this is how to do it.
ETA: this is the video, but it was commentary from a doctor and the news anchors, that said it def wasn't necessary, before they cut to the video on how to do it.

This isn’t the only one I’ve seen. And yes. They are saying it’s most likely not necessary. But every week they say something else. For me, I’d rather play it safe and clean what I can.

Oh ok. I thought all 7 were tested and almost had a heart attack.
I would also assume if one tested positive and they others have the same symptoms that yes, they have it.

I have a staging area. I leave amazon packages overnight before opening them and spray them with Lysol. I use the wipes on the door handles. I also wash my hands all the time.

Re: Disinfecting Groceries?
I do my shopping and I wipe down things (usually the plastic) that I will touch right away. I put away my dairy and meat and wash my hands after that. I then leave the rest of the stuff and I do not touch it for at least a day or two. So, yes, cans, eggs (not refrigerated here) paper towels, etc. sit in their shopping bags for a day or two by the door.
I’m running low on cleaning supplies, but I made my own wipes with bleach, water, and paper towels. Youtube has tutorials.

Disinfecting Groceries?
I'm not going to wipe down groceries. I'm just going to get stuff that I don't need to touch for a few days and let the virus disappear on it's own. I'm thinking that I'll probably wear gloves to shop and dump them in the washer when I get home. I'll leave the bags in the garage while I put away the groceries and then put all the bags in a garbage bag so I can return them to the store at a later date. The virus should be gone from the plastic by the time I get around to returning them.

I don't disinfect my groceries. I wash my hands after before and after putting them away though and I don't put the bags on my counters.
Same. And wash my hands right before I eat anything or touch food.
Yup. The virus isn't going to jump off the package into your nose, so as long as you are washing your hands before you eat, you will be fine. People are really going nuts over this. I'm glad that NYS has set up a mental health line!
I a don't think anyone who is being cautious is "going nuts". The CDC and numerous doctors have been sending out videos on how to care for your groceries during the outbreak.
I am kinda tired of the dismissive attitude towards those of us who choose to practice caution. You were the same ones who were making fun of those who were practicing social distancing in the beginning.
You do you, but I am gonna listen to the professionals and do what I can to protect myself and my family.
I don't need to seek the care of a mental health professional because I want to make sure that I am doing everything that I can to prevent getting and spreading the virus.
My 5 year old currently has Pneumonia, so maybe that is why I am being extra careful. I'd rather do what I can and avoid getting sick than be dismissive and wonder what I could have done differently.

I agree. I’m actually annoyed that a PP said they were glad NYS set up a mental health line. What a horrible thing to say.

Re: Disinfecting Groceries?
I dont but my DH does. I personally think its overkill.
we are not using anything I am buying right away most of the time.
i wash my hands numerous times while cooking and before eating.
we get take out and i do move the food over to new plates and wash my hands before eating.
All i do know is wash my hands way way way more often. My hands are dried out, cracked and in pain at times from all my hand washing

I'm not going "nuts"...but I did wipe down boxes and washed fruit/veggies. Threw bags or extra packaging in the garbage outside.

Re: Disinfecting Groceries?
From study on COVID-19 living on surfaces "The New England Journal of Medicine in laboratory settings, found three hours the particles can live in the air, four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard those boxes and two to three days on plastic and stainless steel -- so it reinforces, clean those surfaces," Dr. Ashton said.
We haven't been to the grocery store in about 2 weeks, but will need to go soon, and yes I will wipe down my groceries before I use them/put them away. I already leave my delivery boxes in the garage for a few days before I open them.
I can't believe at this point in the pandemic, especially people in NY, people are still shaming others for being cautious! Suggesting that people who wipe down items from outside need medical help? I said 5 weeks ago to a coworker, I PRAY that people will think I am crazy in 3 months from now, but sadly all I was preparing for is coming true.

You don't normally wash fruits and veggies? I use produce wash on everything. This is all stuff I do normally. I'm not wiping down like cereal boxes or anything, but bags and packages are opened and the packaging materials go right in the trash outside. I've always done that though. I think the only thing I do differently now is leaving the air in the packing bubbles. I used to try to save room in my bins by popping them.
