Has anyone lost someone to the virus?
It looks like my father in law will be passing very soon. His oxygen levels are too low and not much more hospital can do for him. He was admitted yesterday. I just can’t believe 3 weeks ago we were living in a different reality and he is going to be gone very soon. I am heartbroken and mostly for my kids.
Life is going to be so different for so many after this. I actually think it’s going to be different for society.

Re: Has anyone lost someone to the virus?
I have lost 2 family in the past 4 days. I am pretty sure my grandmother and mother will get it. Both have major medical issues to begin with and they keep going to visit each other.

So very sorry for you. My mother in law has it now but it looks like she will be okay. Now it’s just a waiting game to see if my father in law gets it. They are in a small two bedroom so I am sure he will. My husbands friend’s father passed away last week but he was very ill to begin with.

Yes, my cousin this past weekend. I am so sorry for what you are about to go through. The thought of my cousin dying in hospital alone, no contact with her family. Her husband and son is never allowed to even see her body. She is still sitting in a refrigerated truck at the hospital. No wake, funeral, just right in the ground when they can finally get to her. It's just a terrible, terrible thing right now. You can't even grieve normally as a family. I am sorry.

The mom of one of DH’s friend passed away, she was elderly. Also DH’s uncle had it, he was also elderly and was hospitalized. He recovered and he’s now at home.

Please don’t loose hope! The future is not written for a reason. Anything can happen. Worrying creates a reality based purely on our fears. I know it’s easier said than done but whenever u see u’re starting to go on that direction, pull urself out and try ur hardest to fill urself with hopes and positivism. Hugs!!!

Trust me. We are praying. Dr. called. They’ve started a morphine drip for him. This is just so surreal. I feel so bad. This has affected so many people on so many levels. My husband’s family def won’t be the same after this.

Has anyone lost someone to the virus?
My friend’s father died last week. I just can’t stop thinking about how he was all alone at the hospital taking his final breaths. Truly heartbreaking. My friend and her mom didn’t get to see the body, they cremated him quickly and will do a memorial at a later time.

Re: Has anyone lost someone to the virus?
I'm so sorry for everyone's losses and to the OP, I am sending miracle healing thoughts to your FIL.
I don't know if this helps, but a friend of mine who is a CNA at a local hospital in Nassau said she does everything in her power to be with patients when they pass so they aren't alone. It's breaking her heart but she feels like nobody should have to die alone. She's not the only one either. So many hospital employees are standing in when we can't be there. Just add that to the list of heroic things they are doing every day

I think not being able to have a wake and funeral must make it even more horrible! There's some comfort in seeing all your friends and family at the funeral. It must be 100 times harder without it.

My aunt passed this morning in a nursing home from COVID. My cousin said the same. He couldn’t even see her and had to stand at the gate as they took her out. It’s so sad.

Has anyone lost someone to the virus?
I am so sorry for everyone's losses. As difficult as the passing of a loved one can be, the circumstances and lack of closure (being able to say good-bye and see them one last time) seems to make it even more painful. My thoughts are with you all.

Thank you for sharing that. I really hope someone on hospital staff was with my cousin when she passed. She was at a very busy Queens hospital, so I don't know, but I would like to believe it.

Has anyone lost someone to the virus?
We have lost people we know - some older, some younger. It's very scary and sad.
And sad that we can't personally extend our sympathies. I feel bad for those who can't mourn with others in person.

I'm so sorry. I don't know what hospital your cousin was in but I know several nurses in different hospitals in Queens and they've mentioned that everyone makes a point to make sure someone is with each patient when they pass.

Has anyone lost someone to the virus?
So sorry to all. Also the guidelines were updated on the DOH website today. People will no longer be dying alone. They are allowed someone by their side. Full details are on the PDF on the site

I just looked on the site, but did not see that. Anyway, I am so happy that other people will not have to die alone. But it is very bittersweet for me and my family...I wish they had done this 5 days ago...but I pray for everybody here who has a sick family member.
