The last 3 weeks was when they started doing them. And they didn't make me do them either, they asked if I wanted to or not.

I had my first one last week at 36 weeks. It wasn't bad at all.

I've been having internals all along for medical concerns. The way people talk about them, I never considered what I was getting an internal (it sounded so scary), but in speaking with my doctor the other day, that's apparently what it is. Basically for me, my doctor just checks to make sure my cervix is closed and not effaced/dilated, etc. It takes about 2 seconds and is not uncomfortable as of now. I wouldn't be concerned too much. I'm not sure when it would be standard to start doing internals - I would think maybe after 35 or 36 weeks.

I started at 35 weeks. not bad at all. I thought it was easier and quicker then paps. You are laying there, excited to hear any type of news.

i started at 37 weeks. The first few weren't bad at all. For some reason the more I dialated and effaced the more they hurt...but they only take a minute or two so no biggie. I think my Dr. (a man) was very rough and trying to stir things up - because I delivered with a female dr and it didn't hurt at all when she did them.

I didn't start until 38 weeks. FYI: the longer you can go the less chance of infection.

they are not bad, until the ones they do to really try to get the baby moving (in the hospital for me)

I think I overheard my doctor say they start them at 36-37 weeks

I had my first internal at 37 weeks.

I had one at 35 & 36 weeks. Those didn't hurt at all. My cervix was high and closed.

I had my last at 38 weeks, where I found out I was 1cm dilated and almost 70% effaced. She "stirred things up" to help progress and that's when it hurt! The pain ended as soon as she was done though.

i think they start at 36 weeks- but I never got that far b/c I delivered then.
