Speaking of Christmas... is this tacky?
DH, DD and I are making a trip back home this year for Christmas and DD’s 1st birthday. Do you think it would be tacky to just be there in lieu of Christmas gifts?
I might be able to do homemade gifts. Any suggestions? They need to be fairly lightweight as we are flying.

I felt that way for numerous weddings I had to attend and be in that were in various locations. I dont know what the right etiquette is but since its immediate family I am sure they will understand.

I'm sure they will understand. One year when money was VERY tight, I gave my sisters/brothers, etc. a CD of christmas songs that I burned. It had oldies, new ones, etc. I also picked up an inexpensive little ornament for their trees that year.

i AGREE with the other mommies, they should understand, however you can always do starbucks or Blockbuster gift cards...small amounts. They always come in handy.

Re: Speaking of Christmas... is this tacky?
Ornaments are a good idea. I'm crazy for ornaments. I'd love to do ones with DD's handprint or pic on them.
Money is tight this year. We have been back three times already (twice for three weddings) and weren't planning on this trip for Christmas. We just had to do it though, especially b/c it's DD's 1st bday too. It's all adding up... tickets, b-day bash, dog-boarding. I feel if there is anything we can cut, it's gifts. We certainly don't expect gifts from anyone. Being there and enjoying their company is gift-enough for us. It's been 3 years since we spent Christmas with our families.

Then you should really check out oriental trading cuz you can make ornaments and frames. Their prices are pretty decent and you are buying in bulk...
