Moving with pets ?
I have two indoor cats and I'm hoping they adjust to the new house. Has anyone moved with cats and if so is there anything I can do to make the transition easier?

Re: Moving with pets ?
No ideas, but my cats have moved 3 times with me (they are old) and there has never been an issue. They may act weird for a day or two but they'll adjust

Re: Moving with pets ?
I have 2 indoor cats- the hardest part for them was having to be locked in the bathroom when the movers were there- at both places
when the movers came to the old house- I put them in the bathroom
then when it was time to go to the new place- that was the safest place for them again
but then once the movers were gone- I set everything up for them- and showed them when the food and litter box was
now they are so much happier in the new place- they have more room- and we put a bird feeder on the balconey for them- they are in heaven watching the birds and squierls come every day

Re: Moving with pets ?
I moved my cat who lived for 17 years in my Mom's house to my house.
The worst part of it was the car ride to my new house. She threw up and was really upset.
Once we arrived, I set her up with food / litterbox. I kept them pretty close to one another so she could find them easily. I also brought my old comforter from my bed and set her up with that (for a familiar scent).
Then I slowly introduced her to 1 area of the house at a time (i.e. we gated off the upstairs for awhile, and eventually exposed her to it after she was comfortable with the main level).
I am sure they will be fine! & congratulations on your new home!

Re: Moving with pets ?
Thank you so much!!!! I was thinking about bringing them to the new house first before we move everything and put them in the back room with the door closed..that is where the litterbox will be..i was going to bring their bed, scratching post etc into the room and just have them hang out there.
There is that stuff Feliway that is supposed to be like ferimones to cats, do you think i need it? I'm probably more scared of the move then they will be LOL

I don't know what that is supposed to do but my cat has moved around a bunch of times and is fine in about a day.

Try Feliway. It makes the situation a bit easier. You can get feliway and the diffuser on Ebay for a cheaper price.

Re: Moving with pets ?
we moved this summer, and we have a dog. luckily, we bought ILs house from them, and thats where we were moving to... so the dog had been there before, and knew the house and the niehgborhood from his walks with "grandma" we took him over there a few times before we actually moved in, while we were doing work on the house just to hang out and get used to the surroundings. as we started packing everything up in boxes, he started getting freaked out and nervous... i think he thought we were going to leave him there! but we just made sure to pet him extra, and he was fine. it took him no time at all to settle into the new house, and make new puppy frends in the neighborhood

Re: Moving with pets ?
My indoor cat got a UTI She was so sad when we moved...you would think she would be happy going from a one bedroom apartment to a 3 level split but she stayed in the litter box for almost 2 days and got a bad UTI...if you can have all the furniture and their things moved before you move the cat...or introuduce slowely if you can taking the cat back and fourth a few times to get the cat used to the new place. Good luck and I hope all goes well for you and the kitties!!
