A night in NYC
DH's birthday falls on a Saturday this year and I wanted to surprise him with a night in NYC. I looked online at hotels and some of them don't have great reviews... has anyone stayed in NYC and would recommend a hotel?
TIA

I like the W in Times Square - the rooms are newer...if you're looking for a romantic place theInn at Irving Place is nice, but pricey.

Re: A night in NYC
I'm looking for near Penn Station but it's ok to take the subway if I have to.

I would not recommend Le Parker Meridien.
We never stayed there, but the Washington Square Hotel is supposed to be nice. There's a great restaurant, North Square, on the ground floor. The food is great- we've been meaning to go back. We'd decided to stay here if we ever do another overnight in NYC. It got mostly good reviews on Trip Advisor. It's also in a great neighborhood.

Why? I work across the street and a lot of my clients and co-workers from other offices stay there. They have had nothing but great reviews for their stays.

We stayed a the W in Times Square a few years back for DH's birthday...you only have to take the subway one stop from Penn. We loved it!

We stayed there for our wedding weekend-booked a room for us and a room for DH's cousin and his wife. They made such a mess of our reservations. It took a good half hour to get everything straigtened out. I wouldn't have cared if we weren't paying so much to stay there.

Grand Hyatt NY is nice. Not too expensive and it's right by Grand Central Station which has the Osyster bar and that guys' Apartment (forget the full name) and some other places in it...

Re: A night in NYC
The Milford Plaza had some good deals on hotels.com.
Is money a factor??? The W's are really nice, but expensive and the rooms are so teeny!!!
I love the Soho Grand.
The only time I've stayed in a hotel in NYC though was during the transit strike a few weeks ago. DH and I had booked a studio apartment through hotels.com. Really cheap ($85 + tax), clean, great location (73rd & Broadway) FM me if you need details.

Yes, money is a factor, I didn't want to spend more than $250.00 on a hotel room
