Foster Parents
Joe and I are trying to start a family, but both of us are interested in becoming foster parents. Joe had a call on Tuesday with a 1month old that is now in foster care. He told the social services lady not to let his wife find out about the baby. He said her eyes got huge and she said if we were certified foster parents I could go pick her up right then. Joe said no and she told us to get certified. My question is how do you do it? Do you know anybody that has? It's VERY early in the planning stage, and I am looking for info......I know it's not all about babies. We would welcome ANY child/children into our home. Here's some back ground on us to help...Me 25 paramedic/911 dispatcher, Joe 31 paramedic supervisor, we own our own home, have a large supportive extended family that will embrace this, a fenced in yard w/access to child care and in a nice area of town. We make decent money....less then 6figures but way more then min wage. TIA I appreciate ANY help you guys can offer

Re: Foster Parents
I don't know anything about the process but I just wanted to say that I think what you're doing is great. The children who get to be with your family are very lucky.

Re: Foster Parents
to you for becoming one! Making a difference like that in any child's life deserves a huge round of applause.
I would xpost to Adoption. I know they need to be certified before they can adopt & I would guess it's a similar process.

Re: Foster Parents
My Mom did it for years. We both had to go get certified, and fingerprinted( once I was over 18 and still lived in the house) and she had to take some monthly classes.
All I remember is the building was in Ronkonkoma. Try doing some google searches. Wish I had specific info for you.
They would offer her children and she could deny them if their issues were more then she could handle( she worked as well) .
Theres no income range b/c they pay you for the child monthly. They need the child to have their own room or share with reasonable space...and make sure if its an older child they go to counseling etc ....
HTH some.
