Coach Bag Spinoff
I had a friend of mine over last night for a movie right after work and I apologized for all my coach bags that were out on the couch. I explained that I was trying to help someone online with whether the coach bag she got as a gift was real or fake. Well this really kinda got my friend ticked off a little. She wanted to know why anyone would check that out and that it was kinda rude. I kinda because I really didnt think there was anything wrong with it and if one of my friends gave me such a gift I'd check it too. That I wouldnt want to be walking around telling people I had a real bag when it actually was a fake bag. Well this really got her going...how you should accept gifts graciously and take what you get and not look a gift horse in the eye and that people are not obligated to buy you anything, etc. I think it is also important to note that I put a lot of thought into the gifts I give to my friends. This friend on the other hand is more err..."frugal." Lets just say I got a plastic bus for xmas last year but she is the first person to give out a "list" of things she wants to ensure that she gets what she wants. I guess if I follow her logic, I dont need to follow the list and should just get her any old POS and she should be greatful. Am I looking at this whole thing wrong?

personally- I am opposed to fakes in every way shape and form- for many reasons
so I think it's important to know if the bag is real or fake- gift of not

ITA. manufacturers lose SO much money to fake bags/products that i would hate to think i owned a fake bag, therefore perpetuating their criminal activity.
i don't think it's bad to be a bit cautious/suspicious, gift or not.

I would just let her silly comments rool off your back. Some times you just have to and move on. Next year buy her a tennis ball and leave it at that.

Re: Coach Bag Spinoff
Coming from someone who received a "Prada" bag with a "Made in China" tag on the inside as a gift, I see nothing wrong with checking it out.
I donated the bag to charity. Who knows, perhaps your friend bought my fake bag at Goodwill for $1?
ETA: I did not mention any of this to the gift giver.

Re: Coach Bag Spinoff
You are not wrong. I know people who gave gifts from jewellry parties in Tiffanys boxes. The necklaces were nice but definitely not Tiffanys. I don't understand why you need to try to pass it off as Tiffanys. How embarassing would it be to go to Tiffanys to have it cleaned or repaired and find out its fake. I have a friend who tried to get a tumi bag from his girlfriend repaired and tumi responded that the bag was fake.

ITA! i would NEVER purchase a knock off or even give someone a fake bag as a gift. i work with a women who buys the WORST knock offs, you just look at them and can tell they are fake, especially the coach bags. i don't know where she gets them but they are horrible

ITA!!! Why have a fake bag when you can save up and buy the real thing? Are you buying your bag for YOURSELF or SOMEONE ELSE? I buy my bags for myself, and if I want a designer bag, you bet your bippy it's going to be REAL.
PS - This chic is a wacko. How could she DARE give people lists of things SHE wants for the holidays, yet she hands out crap? Now that's hypocritical!

Re: Coach Bag Spinoff
You are 110% right-about everything. It's all there in what you wrote:
1.Why does she care what you were doing to help someone online?
2. "this really kinda got my friend ticked off a little. She wanted to know why anyone would check that out and that it was kinda rude." --to WHOM? It's not like she was going to confront the giver....
3. "this really got her going...how you should accept gifts graciously and take what you get and not look a gift horse in the eye" What does that have to do with what you & your friend did?
4. "Lets just say I got a plastic bus for xmas last year"-- Wait. WHAT????
AND finally:
5. "but she is the first person to give out a "list" of things she wants to ensure that she gets what she wants."And this pretty much sums things up perfectly....
