TTC/Pregnancy & Lasik
Hi Girls -
I'm hoping someone can help out a friend of mine....i just received this email:
The person who i am getting lasik with is trying to get pregnant. Now that lasik is scheduled, and at the lasik dr's recommendation, she is refraining from getting pregnant until at least after lasik (jan 27).
However, due to some recent discovery (I don't know where from) she has read that she should not try to get pregnant until after 6 mos or a year after getting the lasik. Do you know anything about this? I thought maybe you may've come across something in your research...
Does anyone know anything about this??

Re: TTC/Pregnancy & Lasik
I haven't researched any of this. But, from what I do know the reason they may suggest to wait longer is probably partially because during PG, hormones, primarily progesterone will actually change the shape of your lens and cause vision problems.
Its porbably reccomended to let the "surgery" heal longer. I'm not sure how it would affect the procedure if you got PG a few weeks or months after and your lens starts changing shaped because of the PG hormones and it is still post-op.
Does this make sense??
She can probably call to a few Dr.s and over the phone ask them and get a few different opinions as well as ask her OB. I'm just not sure how much they would all know about this since its not a common occurence.

Re: TTC/Pregnancy & Lasik
I dont see how there could possibly be any correlation. I had lasik about 4 years ago and other than putting a bunch of drops in your eyes, it is pretty much a done deal after you have the surgery.
ETA.. After reading the OP, I agree that the concern is probably that pregnancy can sometimes "change" your vision. They might want to let it heal a while before that?

Re: TTC/Pregnancy & Lasik
I found out I was pregnant a day before I was scheduled for surgery and my doctor said I had to cancel it until 6 months post partum. I don't remember why 6 months, but when I go back, I'll let you know!

Re: TTC/Pregnancy & Lasik
I haven't done research but I would say I understand why you want to do it BEFORE getting pregnant or waiting for a certain time after pregnancy - when you are pregnant your vision can change - so I can see why they say not while or for a certain time after - but not sure why not before
