When did DC start sitting up on their own?
DD is almost five and a half months, and it doesn't seem like she's anywhere near ready to sit up on her own. Whenever I let her sit up unassisted (when I'm right behind her) she immediately falls forward - as if she has no back/neck control to hold herself up.

probably at 6 mos he sat up for a while without rolling back. Before that, he would roll after a minute or so

5 1/2 months is still a little young.
DD will be 7 months this week, she is definately much better at sitting on her own, but if she's not really trying to sit, she will still roll to the side. She doesn't yet pull herself into a sitting position either, but from what I've read that sometimes doesn't happen until around 8/9 months.

DS starting sitting completely unassisted at 5 1/2 months.
ETA: He started putting himself into a sitting position on his own at 8 1/2 months....when he started crawling.

It took a while. She was creeping on her belly before sitting up. I would say around 7 months.

He sat up around 6 months, he could get himself in the sitting position from laying down around 8.5/9 months.

DD is 6 months and isn't sitting up on her own yet...she lasts a second and starts to fall to the side...her ped said this is totally normal and didn't expect her to be sitting up at 6 months.

On her 6 month birthday  ...Thats when I can say I felt confident leaving her to sit without having my hand really close to catch her.....

about 5 months, but she would still have some falls. At about 6 months, she sits up much better, but even still falls if she is trying to multitask with toys!

I would say around 7 months. We would put pillows behind them so if they did topple over they wouldn't get hurt
