Re: Creative baby shower gifts
One of the most creative gifts I got was a basket. It had some toys and other gifts on top. One had a tag that said to take it out last. When I pulled it out it was attached to a clothes line full of cute outfits. I couldn't believe how it just kept going! Carters has lots of cute sleepers and onesies for $5 and you can fill space with socks too. It was quite impressive!

I was at a shower today and my cousin got something similar to this.. There was a really cute poem that was read as they were pulling out the clothesline, you could probably find it online .. If not, FM me and I'll see if my cousin has a copy of the poem. On the clothesline were rattles, bottles, onesies, pajamas, booties, bibs etc.

i agree that a basket of goodies is always great. its fun to keep going through more and more items. another cute idea is a diaper bag with all the necessities...wipes, desitin, tylenol, qtips, gas drops, etc.
a diaper cake decorated with bibs, rattles, toys, hair clips if its a girl.
gear the gift towards the mom and get her a pre-natal massage (one of my fave gifts i got at my shower)

Re: Creative baby shower gifts
I recently did a holiday basket for my best friend. I started as soon as I found out she was pregnant and bought outfits as the holidays came around. I did have to buy a few online and I also bought the "my first holiday" stickers on etsy. I made a bib for each holiday, an outfit in the babies size and a book for each holiday. It was a HUGE hit. It takes some time but I really loved how it came out. You can also check out the discount racks at babies r us, they have recent holiday outfits on sale. With the basket I made a scrapbook. Each page was a different color (red for valentines day etc.) with scrapbooking stickers pertaining to each holiday. I put an index card on each page and wrote "place photo here" and underneath it said ____first Christmas and a place for the date.
It took a lot of time, but it was worth it. Also, I got her a Channa plaque for the babies room that said twinkle twinkle little star on top, and the babies name underneath. I had it match the nursery. She loved that too.

I love the holiday basket idea. I say figure out how many months the baby will be at each holiday and get some special seasonal/holiday appropriate clothes and other items for their big "firsts"

Someone got me a basket of baby goods, espadrilles from Spain , books, blanket from Italy, burpies and swaddlers from india, and more. Each thing had a tag on it from a different country. It was really sweet so that I could tell my baby where each came from. If you are interestest I can look for the card from where it was put together FM me, .

Re: Creative baby shower gifts
My SIL made me a hospital survival bag, and I loved it.... It was sooooo useful. She put maxi pads, travel sized toiletries (toothbrush/toothpaste, mouthwash, lip balm, deodorant, make up wipes), socks, headbands, slippers, hard candies, granola bars.... I am going to do this for the next pregnant friend of mine b/c it really came in handy!

We did this for a friend at her shower. This is a cute idea, but stick to hats/bibs/books/toys. It's hard to predict what size a baby will be a year in advance. DD has a bunch of little buddies her age, and they're all in different size clothes!

Re: Creative baby shower gifts
I like to get something for the mom - a spa gc, mani/pedi, gc to get hair done, etc.

Re: Creative baby shower gifts
Is the friend registered? I might be bad but I get annoyed when people don't buy what's on my registry for my showers!! Lol.

Monthly onesie stickers from etsy. You can put it with white onesies in different sizes.

LOL.
I would prepare yourself now in case people don't purchase things off of your registry.
Barely anyone purchased anything off of my registries. I had a BBB and BRU registry. I had to essentially purchase both lists on my own the weekend after the shower. I like the thoughtful, special, personal and creative gifts though. I like things you can't always get in the regular stores (special clothes- like from a favorite sports team, or the college you went to), some homemade items like knitted blankets, and a lot more... I just hate when people buy you stuff from the SAME stores you registered at but only choose stuff NOT on your registry. Those were the only things that annoyed me. Creative gifts are OK, but if I register for a certain brand or color of crib sheets, why buy me something for the same price at the same store that is just a different color or brand?!?

Re: Creative baby shower gifts
Instead of making a diaper cake my SIL made a diaper motorcycle with a stuffed bear on top riding it. The handle bars were mad with blankets and the headlight was a bottle. It was soooo cute and all of my guests raved about it.

citruslane.com
They have a shower gift and you could buy them a package for the baby later if you wanted. For my nephew we bought him 3 months worth for his 1st birthday gift and they liked it so much they did it for the rest of the year
I agree though with a pp buy from the registry and then fancy it up or buy something that was on the list, but might be nicer then they wanted to ask for. Like instead of a Carter's blanket you could go to whimsyboobaby.com and have a custom made bamboo blanket done.
