Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
This may sound like an odd question but I am going to ask it anyway LOL
Did anyone else realize that once the baby arrived, you didnt use or need all the things that they have out there for babies now? Let me clarify...my mom kept telling me when I was pregnant, "they didnt have that when I was raising you guys, and you turned out fine!" At first it used to annoy me but now that my dd is here, I realize, she is right! For example, we didnt order a changing table due to lack of space but I realize now, how many times would I be changing her on that changing table?? I change her wherever is convenient and it works out so much better. There are other things that I cant think of right now but its like such an overload at babies r us and I realize now, you dont need half these things. Maternal instinct kicks in and it works better than half these products. Did that make any sense?

Re: Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
Definitely! I have a changing table and barely used it. I could have saved $450 bucks. When Nate was little we spent most of the day downstairs so I would just change him there. I didn't feel the need to go upstairs just to change him. If we lived in a ranch or apt, maybe I would have used it more.

Re: Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
Definitely! My LEAST favorite thing is the Diaper Genie...I think it's disgusting. Mine is just sitting in the basement now. I just throw her dirty diapers in a plastic bag that gets thrown out everyday.

Exactly! In my opinion, it IS the basics that you need more of. Like burp cloths, receiving blankets, changing pads..things like that.

I agree, I hate the diaper Genie i got so fed up with it i threw it outside one day in the garbage. also the diaper warmer is a waste. You could always use bibs, diaper cloths, PJ's, onesies. I do use my changing table alot. it's easier because i don't have to bend down and i have everyhthing i need next to it.

Re: Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
Absolutely! I never used a changing table, or a glider or about a dozen other baby things that they tell you you HAVE to have. It is just the way to extort money from new parents who don;t really know what they will need.
When I went ot BRU to pick a few things I had go to that table where they help you with your resitery and the women started goign over the list with me tgelling me how I NEED about a million more things... Right! I told her straigh away that I don;t really need any of those things and she claimed that I will come back later becasue I wil need them anyway. Well, I never did adnw e are doign just fine

totally...
but changing table is not one of those items as i use mine all the time...
although that being said, i did not purchase a changing table, but rather a plain set of drawers and placed a changing pad on top. i didn't want furniture that screamed baby and that could be used as DD grows up!
Same here!

Re: Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
Some people swear by the Diaper Genie and people told me over and over that I should register for it because I won't want to bring dirty diapers outside all of the time. I luckily didn't register for it and the plastic bags are fine. And, as someone said - you are changing the baby is so many different places you're not always in the same place.
The other thing is that you are registering for a person that you don't even know yet. So, I have a few things that I would have not bought or decided on a different model because of his personality.
We bought the sleep positioner and it might be great for the next kid but our son wanted no part of it.

Re: Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
I heard the diaper genie was useless. I never had the desire to register for one.
The bottle warmer was useless to me as I ended up heating the bottles in a pot of hot water.
One of DH's SIL's and my MIL told me that I had to register for a wipes warmer. What the heck for??? Then he'll only be used to a warm wiper and won't like the cold ones. I told them both that he'll just have to get used to the cold ones and that's it...

That one kills me , just kills me!!! How about just keeping the wipes at a room temperature IN THE ROOM I wasn't planning on putting them in the fridge...

I told them he was getting the cold wipes and he was going to have to deal with it... He's doing just fine with the cold wipes...

Me too. I can't live without the changing table. I refuse to change them anywhere else. To bad for my back!

Re: Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
I use the changing table a lot. Especially when he poops. But when it's just pee pee I'll change him on the changing table or the bed or anywhere else that's convienent.

thanks for posting this. When I registered, I only put down necessities..people have been calling me telling me I did not register for enough.
I just remember with my bridal registry, there is so much stuff I don't use its crazy. I went gun crazy. Now it just takes up space.

Re: Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
I think I did a good job registering because I use all of the things I got. Especially my chaning table and glider. I change DS on their all the time, anything lower and my back hurts. The glider I also feed DS in every night.

Re: Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
That's why I think it's a good idea to take someone who recently had kids with you when you register. They can tell you what is useless and what you need. My sister came with me, and so far I can say I use everything I registered for.

Re: Did anyone realize this once their children were born?
i guess everyone is different as far as what they use more or less of. I for one, use my changing table every day since the day he was born. I just find it so more convenient on my back that I dont have to bend over. And the glider i have used everyday also since he is 2 months old. I may need a new one soon, i think i may be warping the nuts and bolts. But things like burp cloths, receiving blankets, bathrobe (totally useless) infant slippers.. they are just so not needed...

I agree with this, we went nuts for our wedding...now our basement has fine china in boxes 3 1/2 years later, and a bunch of other stuff.
I have to say, I use a LOT of the baby stuff I got on my registry though. LOVE the Jumperoo now, and bouncy seat (returned the expensive one and got a $25 one at Target though).
