Re: Do you get the flu shot?

My job gives them out, so I get it if I am in the office that day. If not, I don't go out of my way to get it.

I always mean to, but never get around to actually doing it. One of these years I'm going to regret it. My kids get it at the pediatrician. My DH doesn't it get because he had Guillain-Barre. There is some evidence that the shot could cause a relapse.

Do you get the flu shot?

I do. Awhile ago I had a bad case of the flu, and I've gotten it ever since. I get it at my allergist's office when I get my allergy shots.

Re: Do you get the flu shot?

We all get the shot especially this year with having a newborn. I had the flu in HS and college and it was awful. I've been getting the shot pretty much every year since getting the flu in college. DH has been getting one since we had kids. I know it can be hit or miss with the strains, but I want to protect myself and my family as much as possible.

No way. I am also asthmatic , though it is more seasonal as I get older and prone to bronchitis. My Dr's are on board with my decision.

Really, I was a chronic asthmatic and my whole life my doctors have always pushed me to get it. The one time I had the flu w/o the shot I ended up in the ER and was out of commission and on the machine/prednisone for 2 weeks.

My stepson also a chronic asthmatic has to get it every year.

Yes. really. And no one "HAS" to get it. It's a personal choice. To each their own. I have my reasons for not getting it as I'm sure people who get it have their reasons. The only thing I suggest is everyone do their research!

Ok relax I meant really that your doctor advises you not to get it when I always here medical practitioners advise people such as elderly or asthmatics to get the flu shot as a preventative. I’ve never heard the reverse.

I agree no on has to get as you can see from my post my DH doesn’t always get it. I don’t care who gets the flu shot or the reasons why people don’t get it. I stand behind me getting every years and my DS.

Yes, we all get it.

I had Type A Flu once 15 years ago, and it was horrific. I was so weak, I had to crawl to the bathroom. The weakness lasted a month.

All these years later and I'm still freaked out over how bad it was.

YES!!! I never used to get the flu shot until I got actual influenza A. I've never been so sick in my life and I was so weak for a month after. The lingering leg pain was the worst. Now I run to get it every year.

Re: Do you get the flu shot?

We won't be getting it. It's crazy how much they push the flu vaccine. I can understand suggesting it for people with compromised immune systems because the flu could be deadly for them, but they push it on everyone! Perfectly healthy people should not be practically forced to get it.
My brother is a pharmacist (not at a big name chain) and they are told to really push the vaccine, they are rewarded for it. I was at CVS last week, only picking up photos and the cashier even tried to push it on me.

The way the doctors talk to me, make me feel like I'm not allowed to say no. I have to keep repeating "no thanks, we're not going to do that today". I've been warned at DS's doctor that saying no to any vaccine can get us dismissed as a patient.

Re: Do you get the flu shot?

DH, myself, DD and DS all get it
The flu KILLS children so there is no question for me about the benefits of getting vaccinated!

More than 100 kids died from the flu last year
80 percent of kids who die from the flu are not vaccinated and MANY of them are otherwise healthy.

The vaccine is meant to reduce your chance of complications like pneumonia if you get the flu and lower your chances of being hospitalized with severe flu illness. It's

Both my daughter and I had the flu last year... two different strains 3 months apart. Her symptoms were extremely mild and while I was much sicker, I was back to work in 4 days... while most people could be out a week or longer.
I also got the flu vaccine while I was pregnant...because you pass some protection onto the baby, who would have been too young to be vaccinated that flu season.

I have asthma & my doctor says get it, so I do. DH gets his as well- he works at a college so he's in contact with lots of people & their germs. I also always get it for DD because her ped recommends it, and I trust him. I also worry that she could develop asthma, so I want to be safe.

Yes. This is exactly how I was the one time I had the flu. The weakness level was alarming; I was living alone and had friends and DH (who was a fairly new relationship) checking on me. To be quite honest -- when I was on chemo, the only way for me to describe to regular people what the side effects were like was for me to relate to them about type A flu. Because that's how bad both are. And it takes a very long time for the body to recover.

Nope we don’t get it. 3 years ago I had flu A and my dd who was like 2.5 got it too. The family member that gave to us and my Aunt were sooooo sick but my DD and I who already took elderberry syrup daily barely were effected. My doc wouldn’t even test me for the flu at first bc fever didn’t break 100. Finally once he did and we were confirmed we upped he elderberry to 4x a day.

I try to be proactive towards the flu. Dd changes when she gets home, lots of hand washing and we eat really healthy.

Elderberry was a god send for us too. DH got flu, went to the dr, got the tamiflu, took it religiously and it did NOTHING. He was the sickest of all of us.

DD had the flu shot and still caught it from him. Got diagnosed at the dr.
I got sick soon after too- never went to the Dr. but with two positive flu tests in the house and my symptoms- I knew I had it too.

I gave her and i elderberry from the second he was diagnosed- he didn't want to take it.
Her and I had much more mild symptoms, and I was back to work in less than a week.
DH was sick as a dog for over a week.
I truly believe in the elderberry.

Yes, we all get it. My 6 yr old had the flu 2 years ago, and it resulted in 2 trips to the ER and a 2 night hospital stay.

IP6 is also an immune super booster. I have rarely gotten sick since I started taking that regularly. The research is amazing

I know it totally works! We actually were already taking when we both got the flu. She was coughing and we went to the doc and they didn’t test her bc she was fine ish. I only went to doc bc it was my yearly. He was SUCH a d!ck to me acting like I was crazy but bc I never broke 100 degrees he though it was impossible. But both tested w nose swab and both w flu A.

So I am big on just taking elderberry all winter anyway. Along w other vitamins too!

Not knocking the elderberry, I just think it sometimes just hits people differently. My DS was SOOOOO sick with the flu last winter. I caught it from him and honestly if I didn't know it was the flu, I would have assumed it was a bad cold. I never got a fever over low 100s... He got the shot, I didn't, and all I take for flu defense if you wanna call it that are vitamins.

The year before that however, my DS and I were both equally sick as dogs.

Do you get the flu shot?

We all get it. DH had the flu one year and He was out of work for a week and we basically quarantined him so we wouldn't get it.

Not worth the risk IMO
