Re: What's your take on this?

I make it a habit to not give cash. I may buy a sandwich, article of clothing etc.

As for the comment about him spending as much time looking for a job as out there. The job market out there is still a scary place and jobs are not easy to come by. My DH was laid off over 2.5 years ago from his nice high paying job and looked for a while with nothing out there in his field, he's now working doing something he hates and making next to nothing, just so he feels like he contributes while he's waiting for the jobs to open up again. It's not as easy to get a job, especially when you have child care, or transportation expenses to take into consideration.

Whenever I see something like that I hand the person the emergency phone number for the Suffolk County Department of Social Services. My DH on the other hand used to offer to buy food, until he was told I don't want food, just money. Now, he just drives by.

I saw themt too, near party city. With bags from party city and the kids were eating Happy Meals Chat Icon !
ETA it was in Massapequa

I have seen them there too. I have seen people pull over and give them things. Someone probably did that with the happy meals. I felt bad for the kids when they were standing out there on the really hot days.

Re: What's your take on this?

I saw a man with his wife a four or three yr old and a newborn...same thing with a sign at walmart in farming dale i have them 5 bucks and a loaf of bread and bologna i bought ...this was the beginning of summer. Since then on the way to my in laws home they live in glen cove we saw a women walk in up to cars with a sign ...and up the road further in a shopping mall a man with two kids no wife present. My mil said she saw a fam at the grocer near her and felt so bad it brought her to tears she gave them money. Honestly it's sounds horrible but if that guy didnt have his kids with him at walmart i prob would have just walked by ..the kids did it to me .

Not the same family I saw at the Setauket Target last week. The guy looks similar though. The guy I saw had a card board sign and the women was sitting on a blanket with a 3 or 4 year old and a baby. They had a red stroller. Not sure why I noticed the stroller, but I wanted to see if it was an expensive one. HA I saw scam written all over the situation. I would never give them a dime. I even looked to see if there was a car parked in the last spot across from them .There was a mini van, that I bet was theirs.
I just thought it was a one time family. I'm shocked to hear so many of them around the island. It has to be different familys, but the same scam.

Re: What's your take on this?

This past Tuesday, I saw another family the Commack Target (Vets Hwy) standing outside of Moe's.
He was holding a sign. She was holding a baby (maybe a year or so).
I saw a woman talking to them. Not sure she gave money, maybe advice.
Then, leaving I saw a woman in a truck hand them $$ and I wanted to yell out my window "Oh Gosh, don't do it".

I agree. It's time for the police to get involved. DH said he saw them the week before, same Target, different spot (over by Party City).

This family does not match the family in the pic posted a few posts back.

Breaks my heart they are using children to run these scams! Chat Icon

Re: What's your take on this?

I saw a couple with a baby In the parking lot of panera and Walmart near the republic airport Off route 110. The couple looked to be in their early 30's and they looked foreign. The wife was standing there holding the little baby girl in the heat. I parked and sat there to watch for a couple minutes. People drove by and handed them money some even walked over to them and gave them money. The wife looked suspicious at me bc she saw me looking at them. So she looked like she said something to her partner, they started to move on, after I left panera and I was driving away, I saw them walking into the Houlihans lot. I drove over to them and asked if they were okay at first these spoke perfect English and said yes were fine and then his wife stepped in and said he didn't speak English...she said he was trying to get airfare to go home to their country bc he lost his job. I asked do they have a place to stay and she responded they are paying rent at her brothers house... The story didn't make sense and I was just becoming angry that they had their baby who they said was 7 months old but really looked closer to 12 months old out in such heat. I told her she really shouldn't keep the baby out in the heat and to take her into a store with ac that the baby could get heat exhaustion. She said she knew and off I drove... Funny when I was leavig the husband who "couldn't speak English" asked me if I could help meaning with money.... Apparently as I read this post this same couple is making their way all over the island scamming people. They must be stopped and I now question if the child is even theirs... I hope the police get involved soon! I saw the same couple with the baby again on Friday in route 110 in the Marshall's/ kohls parking lot..
