With the fall season here and the natural world changing, there is a good possibility that you’d like to change your home up, too. With the fall season comes a whole new abundance of natural colors and textures to inspire your indoor environment.
One simple change that can add a distinct touch of autumn to your home is by simply changing up your linen. Autumn is all about the warm shades of gold, red, and orange that are found out in nature. For your kitchen, trade out your usual dish towels for new, autumn shades that should still compliment your color scheme. Find a table cloth or runner that suits your taste and adds a splash of personality to the room. In your bathroom, trade out your traditional towels for a couple of different fall shades. All of these items can be saved to be used yearly, and don’t forget to check out the options at your local thrift/consignment store to save a few dollars.
To warm up your living room for fall, without taking out the holiday decorations just yet, there are a few touches that can remain throughout the season. Start by adding a couple candles of your favorite fall scent, such as pumpkin spice and mulled apple-cider. One of our strongest memory receptors is our sense of smell: bring back your childhood memories and seasonal inspiration with just the right scent. Jar candles are also a way of brings the colors of autumn into your room. Add a couple of afghans or throw blankets over the backs of chairs or couches to inspire a cozy, warm atmosphere. Don’t be afraid to bring the outdoors in. Decorate with your favorite fall flowers, such as brightly colored mums, to bring in the sensation of the season. Decorate with bundles of sticks and cinnamon scented brooms or pinecones to bring in a natural touch. Then, of course, don’t forget to pick up a couple of your favorite fancy pumpkins and gourds to act as centerpieces for your coffee table, mantle piece, and kitchen table.
