Many of us have been “warned” about the potential dangers and harmful health effects of plastic water bottles. And, that sent many of us running to find a feasible alternative, which for many, including myself, translated into Swiss made SIGG water bottles. But, now this appealing alternative for the eco-conscious consumer is calling him or her to caveat emptor as some models have been found to contain resin liners containing bisphenol-A (BPA), a hormone disruptor and chemical frequently linked to cancer.
According to SIGG purchases made after August 2008 are BPA free, but older models may need to be returned and/or replaces. In fact, the company has even put out a liner guide to help you identify which model you have (http://www.mysigg.com/liner/). And, while SIGG suggests it never claimed to be BPA-free, but instead 100 percent leach-free, the company is offering a voluntary exchange program that runs through the end of October 2009, but YOU will have to pay shipping costs. For more information log onto mysigg.com.
You may also want to check your local Whole Foods grocers among others who are conducting their own exchange programs.
